Gas mileage

And that would be why your mileage isn't so hot .
Try driving moderately never accelerating past 3000 RPM and staying under 70MPH while on freeway and under 45MPH on local. You'll definitely get 30+ MPG.

How long have you had the car? At 66 posts, i assume your car is as new. I learned the fit is very sensitive to technique. Just work on your driving habits. Learn to shift, whether in auto or manual. Use cruise control. Roll windows up and use AC when on freeway. Don't step on gas when the traffic light in front of you has been green for a long time (and you suspect it'll turn red) etc.

The fit will break in a lot. Trust me. People say break in is a few hundred miles. My car is getting the best mileage (look at my log on this forum) after 10,000 miles. The oil was PITCH BLACK on my second oil change.

I'm driving a 5 speed manual sport and put gas in it for the first time last weekend. I don't know exactly how full it was when I picked it up from the dealer, so I can tell you that I got somewhere between 32 and 37 MPG.
Because I am still breaking it in, I have been driving extremely conservatively. (Mostly on country roads... a mechanic friend of mine suggested country road driving as a great way to break in a car... you get to vary the speed and load conditions a lot and still have fun doing it) Anyway, my right foot doesn't know where the floor is yet... I am curious to see where my mileage will end up once I start using more than half throttle.
The funny thing is, now that I've been driving in a grandfatherly way for a few days I am getting used to it.... and finding it doesn't really change my drive times. I live pretty close to work, and have four stop signs between my house and work. If it takes me 6 seconds longer to accelerate to cruising speed from each stop, I've added less than half a minute of drive time.
Everybody talks about accelerating when talking about gas mileage, but most people forget about braking... remember, every time you put your foot on the brake you are converting momentum into heat... The more you brake the more you waste. So if you back off a little and keep a longer following distance, not only will you be safer, you'll be saving gas.
OK, that's my ramble for today.

Well im at a little over 40,000 miles on my 07 thats just turned 10 months old on the 17th of April. A/T Sport, still 90% highway at usually 75-90 ( I know the limiter is 118mph - finally was able to hit it . Mobile 1 full syntetic, tires at 35 cold with Nitrogen fill, not a lot of AC or idling. My 2 friends have the same car and have been using Shell V-Power 91 Octane. My milage has jumped from about 26-27 to 29-30 consitently ( I fill up about 3 times a week). ARCO premium showed NO INCREASE. I also use Chevron, 76 and whatever Costco buys that week and had increases too. Don;t use them consistently enough to be sure, but milage was decent on those too. I Tried Shell 89 and it seemed pretty good as well. I have a lead foot and am 360 lbs, 6'4 and am by myself prob 60% of the time. My buddy is gettin about 35 on his FIT A/T

here this
I had owned a base fit MT for 8000 miles with a record high of 46.4 mpg buring U.S. gallons of gasoline regular. of course it is a 1.5 litter. On that drive i did some around town driving before driving on I-5. In seattle traffic slowed down to about 30 mpg and some stops. little wind on that drive. the total drive was about 200 miles. I think I may have been able to get over 46.4 mpg? I most commenly got 38mpg at that time. It seems the miles per gallon went up a notch then. I consitantly would get 33 to 35 mpg around town then. It is a very strang thing particularly for folks that try so hard to do better.

Guys, if you don't have the same testing methodology in the two different environments, you are comparing apples and oranges. Japan's fuel consumption figures are based on what the call the 10・15 mode testing. I am not going into details, but the numbers that come out of this official testing are even more unrealistic than the EPA's. The JDM Fit is notorious for having tested really well under the 10・15 mode, and yet in real driving hardly anyone comes close to the tested numbers. Yes, their 1.3L and/or CVT may make a difference, but the real culprit for the outstanding Japanese mileage figures is the totally unrealistic testing mode that they use over there.

WOOT, hit 40.5 MPG a couple tanks back, fell to "only" 30 MPG next tank and this upcomming one should be ATLEAST 43 MPG by my estimates (got 10,000 miles of driving down to the light on half the tanks so im usually right about these things)
I'm loving how MPG keeps goin up once u pass 8000miles. Gonna try to get gas tommorow night without any more driving cuz i dont wanna spoil the 90% highway 10% city stat XD. This wasn't super conservative driving, but definetly less aggressive than i would drive normally, only started to do this after my speeding ticket, until i make sure i dont got a conviction i aint takin any chances, but hell driving for max mpgs is even more exciting than driving fast, hell driving fast anyone can beat u if you are in a fit, driving economically nothing short of a prius can take us on !!! FIT POWA !!!

I use sunoco 87 which has up to 10% ethanol. I know ethanol is bad for mileage but it's cleaner and can ween us of our major dependence on foreign oil, it brings alot of other stuff to the table too but these are two pretty big ones.
Im in Canada so most of our gas is oxygenated, with the fit I've only filled up a few times at shell, once at esso and all the other 10,000 miles are with sunoco 87. with only 4 tanks of shell (most were half tanks cuz i couldnt find a sunoco) I cant say i really notice a difference. The esso tank was particularly bad but with only 1 trial it's not enough to discern anything. What I DO know is sunoco shell and esso have the cleanest gas up here (by sulphur content and in that order) which is why i only go to them, even if i gotta pay a lil bit more.

No way. The *best* I've ever had was 36 highway, and that was only once. The next best highway is 33. Around town runs in the mid 20's. I mention it to the dealer and they're amazed..."give it more time to break in, it'll get better". If I didn't like the car for it's other features it would've been history a long time ago.

I've got 12,500 miles on my Fit. I love the car but the fuel efficiency is horrible. I usually average around 30 mpg with 75% highway miles. That's pretty much been the story since I bought the car. No change. And since the gas tank is so small I'm fill it up anyways every 4 days.
Oh well. I should've bought the manual tranny version... Anyone who says things will change once the car breaks in, either doesn't know what they're talking about or is misleading you.
