Whoa! ::cringes::

I feel extremely safe in my Fit now, seeing as how you lived after that accident. That driver must have been horrible.

yes i always set that thing to zero and pay by debit card so i know exactly how many gallons went in before i fill up again ( i keep the reciepts in the car).

so if i put in 9.068 gallons of gas and that filled the tank and i got to drive a certain number of miles 194.7 to be exact before it went almost empty (i filled it with 9.830 gallons) and reset to zero. i would say i am getting pretty bad gas millage. i dont think that reserve was going to get me much furthur.

21 mpgs. sound right?

After having my car for a month, I would have to agree that she gets the best gas mileage on the freeway. The Fit really shines on long highway stretches. Of course, city traffic kills the gas mileage horribly, ugh. My last tank got me about 32 mpg, which was the best it's been so far. That tank took me on a road trip to the Jersey shore, but there was a *lot* of stop and go traffic, so I consider that pretty good. This tank isn't doing as well, since I've been doing more city driving. Trip meter's at about 180 miles with a bit less than 1/2 a tank, but a bit more than 1/4. Bah. The highways in the Philly area are pretty much stop and go (especially the Schuylkill!), so it's pretty much like city driving, which is probably hurting the mileage even more. Hopefully, I'll be able to go a bit more on this tank. I'm hoping it at least makes the mid 200s before it craps out, but we'll see.

The Fit really is sensitive to changes, like others have said. I get better mileage when I fill up at my two "regular" stations. I go to a different gas station outside of those two, even if it's the same type of station, and the mileage is affected negatively. Though I rarely have to accelerate hard (only occasionally when merging onto crazy Philly highways), the times I do really affect the gas mileage. It's nuts, but she's still doing really well. She's much better on gas when I'm running the a/c than our Escort was.

But, if my revs stay low I will get in the upper 20s...but they sure won't!

Andy,

No success with this....it just stays the same with the original page.

bob

Nevermind....the "code" changes...just had to use the new one. Thanks for this info...I'm about to fill up again and I'm not impressed with my gas mileage at all. Maybe this will help.

Off the lot I got 29+ on the first tank and 31+ on the second (more highway). If you go to the http://fueleconomy.gov site you can register and participate in their mileage tracker and you can make the results public (but still anonymous). There are a few other Fits in these now, hopefully more to come.

I assume you're directing this question to me.

The Scangauge was very easy to install once I found where the OBDII port is on the Fit. (It is located under the dash near your right leg. You can feel it if you reach under there.)

You simply plug it in and it works. You should definitely read its instruction booklet to determine which gauges you want to display. (You can choose any 4 gauges to display simultaneously on the screen.) I usually like to display:

INTAKE AIR TEMP ------------- COOLANT TEMP
MPG -------------------------------------- RPM

in those positions shown above. I also set the backlight color to BLUE to match the other Fit dash displays. I have it affixed above the steering column and will tidy up the cable later when I have time. It's flexible enough to be moved to another vehicle.

I bought it on eBay slightly used for $156. Brand new I think they're around $165. There are 2 distributors selling new units on eBay or you can also go to Linear Logic's website and find a distibutor to buy it from.

With all the displays it is capable of, you can learn a lot about the Fit's internals. For instance, I've found that the ENGINE COLD light goes out when the coolant temp reaches 125 degrees F.

My brother got his Toyota Yaris S one week ago. He had 6 miles on the car when he picked it up. Today, I drove with him in his car, he still had almost a quarter tank and had 411 miles on it! That means he is getting over 40 mpg. He has an automatic to boot. This really made me angry. Then only reason I bought the fit was because of gas mileage.

Finally got an ETA on my fit, build date September 19, 2006, then about six weeks for delivery.

I currently log a bit of data in a small leather covered notebook in columns listed below. I log the odometer reading and how much fuel it takes to fill up completely, with the price per gallon. I can calculate my economy and other data later on.

Odometer - Gallons to fill - price per gallon - date - calculated economy - notes

I also use my second trip meter each time I fill up, although I don't record it's readings.

I would recommend everyone get a notebook and pen, keep it in your car, and record the above data to keep track. I also have a section for maintenance, in which I record what I did, what parts I used, cost and the date and odometer reading. It can never hurt to keep good records!

Post Half tank tripmeter readings . . .

FYI guys, my half-tank readings are usually ~200 miles. (maybe 190 to 205) consistently.

On my last record tank of 44.178 MPG, I recall that my half tank was around 225 or 230.

This is all pretty freaky! I have a pretty heavy foot and have ben driving a lard-arse Pathfinder for 4 years, so I figured that I'd be on the low end of the mpg spectrum. But at 30, on a brand new Fit, it seems like I'm in the middle of the pack. I am trying to figure out what I could do to cut my mileage by 30%....

All I can come up with is: use of excessive throttle position. The Fit seems to launch just fine for most sitations by just taking up the slack in the throttle. I could see that if I was pushing the throttle halfway to the floor at every start it might kill the fuel economy. That is just a guess. Sorry, but I'm not into experimenting in ways to get worse mileage

Remember that the idea behind VTEC is to give you optimized peformance at botn low speed/low rpm driving and at high rpm/freeway speeds. So let the car do the work and see if you get an improvement in mpg.
