daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. i just filled up at 287 miles. with 2.3 gallons left in the tank. Used 8.5 to fill. With that said. My mileage is around 34.21. I think I am misleading myself here. I kinda forgot that the 38/33 mpg is til it's empty. So I have to do a tad bit more math. Now if everyone with my same mpg problem would do the same math as I did, you all might see huge mpg improvements as I did

when you fill up. note the mileage when you filled up. mine was 287. it took 8.5 gallons to fill my car. so i divide 287 by 8.5 which gives me 33.76 mpg. then take 33.76 and multiply it by 2.3 (2.3 being how much gas was left) I get 77.65. then i add that to the 287 miles=364.65 or somehwere around that. then I divide that total by the gas tank capacity of 10.8 gallons. that gives me roughly 34mpg

When you fill up, set you tripmeter to zero.
At your next fill up divide the total number of gallons into the number of miles on your tripometer. THAT is your total MPG.

did u do the idle learn procedure?
#327
Does the car have to be rested cold for this procedure or can I do it as soon as i come back from work?
i would imagine that the engine might be a bit hot.. when is the best time to do it?
what if the fan never turns on during the idle.. should i turn on the a/c then off like someone else said they did to get the fan going?
thanks...

and for the trip o meter, THATS WHAT I DID.

what i was doing was being reall pissed off at 286 per fill. i divided that number by 10.8 until i started to pay attention to how much i was actually using.
and i haven't read about the idle learn procedure. will look into it. but none the less. I am taking her to HONDA for their fuel consumption test.

Well fans finally turned on after 35mins of idling So well see how things go afterwards... I did noticed that my gas needle went back to 3/4 after driving it back home from work (btw all city driving)

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/ov...&trimid=102628 this article says average mpg is 24.52, which is more realistic compared to the average 26 mpg I am getting at about 3k mi. joe

a picture of my sprt 5at, when we first got it, no window tint or "Si" logo, it may be that living in the mountains, I may never get the 40 mpg or 39 mpg others seem to be getting, it would be nice to drive to SF to see what I could eek out of it, traveling at 50mph! 5th gear at 50mph would soon bog down to 30 mph if driven on the hills near my house. also, to get a realistic mpg figure, you need to use similar style pump hose, or the same station if you can, and put the hose in the same way, and average it between a few fillups. this eliminates the false mpg by topping off the first tank, or driving 50 miles and then filling up. a realistic mpg figure, whatever you get, I'm getting 26.0 mpg, is averaged after 8 tank refills. fellow worker, is getting 60+ in his honda hybrid, but others tell me hes a traffic hazard on the freeway! who wants to drive like that? (whats a freeway?)

I also don't understand why alot of you aren't getting good mileage. Learn how to drive! I am on my second Fit (first one got totaled by an idiot teenager in an SUV) and both have averaged 40 mpg right off the lot. If you are worried about fuel efficiency, drive like it. The Fit isn't a miracle worker.

what me worry? maybe your right that was an average of all the cars on the list, but its reflective of what I get, maybe my wife is not driving right, or all the rest of us who are getting 25-29 mpg. but then, she didnt total our car. care to give the list, a listing of miles driven, gal used, say for the last ten tanks of gas. by the way, our acura has "I'm not speeding, I'm qualifying" not "I'm driving for mpg" lisence plate. My fit drives daily through 1,500 feet elevation change, on windy canyon roads, back and forth. are you a flatlander? joe so cal USA

First, it should have been clear that I didnt wreck anything. I was hit on my way home from college so don't get smart or take my comments personally. The only comment for you was the first line.
My only point was that many are complaining about their MPG not reflecting the EPA estimates. You are right, there are factors that can drop the numbers.
I don't keep a log of MPG, but I do know simple math and I check it every fill up.

I don't understand this thread. Isn't this thread supposed to have people just report their personal findings? I mean, how can you standardize exactly how people calculate their gas mileage? How can you gauge how much highway exactly and city driving? It's all subjective. I didn't dream up 36 mpg on my last tank, so I can see why people are frusterated. I would be pissed off if my Fit didn't get at LEAST 33-34 mpg on the highway given an overrated EPA rating for highway.
I can't wait to fill up again, just so I can find out how I'm doing driving mostly city. I better get started because I'm still just under full.

Oh, and you got me...I typically have to push 150 miles not 120.
