Unhappy Driving Position Uncomfortable?

This part of the review bothered me a bit:
"If I had one complaint about the Fit it would be the driving position I spent approximately one and a half hours behind the wheel of various Fits. My first instinct when I hopped into the first one was to lower the seat, but due to the placement of the fuel tank and the nature of the “magic seats” the seats do not lower. To my surprise I overcame this in a short period of time on the drive but with no telescopic steering wheel I either felt too close to the pedals or too far from the steering wheel. To be fair to Honda no other vehicles in this segment have telescopic steering either. The interesting thing is the last Fit I drove was a Sport model with paddle shifters and I immediately felt comfortable in this version, I can’t really explain it as there is no difference in ergonomics. It is possible I got use to the driving position, or that I found the right combination of seat travel and back support adjustment to compensate for the lack of telescopic."

Any new owners want to comment on driving position?

I'm pleased. In my current car, I'm either too close to the wheel or too far from the pedals. With a steering wheel gasbag, that's not good.

Yeah, it does seem high. But like any new car, things are different. My only beef with the Fit is the rear visabilty when lane changing to the left. Very limited, that rear seat head restraint is tall and in the way.

The first vehicle I drove was the 5 speed automatic and I was so surprised by the throttle response and transmission response, I was eager to try the manual. The manual was more of the same with even more pep, the VTEC rush feels similar to the S2000’s often described as feeling like a turbo surge. Finally I stepped into a sport model with paddle shifters not expecting much, I have driven these manu-matic doohickeys before and they often are lack luster and do not impress me one bit. The Fit was different, the response with down or up shifting is phenomenal, as much as I love the control and feel of a manual transmission the paddle shifting automatic Fit can provide you with both worlds of excitement and drive ability.
Wow, can this auto tranny really be this good? Does the Fit have a magic auto transmission as well as magic seats? This is high praise from an S2000 driver.

Yeah, the throttle reponse is amazing. I had to learn all over again how to drive a 5-speed. Peppy little car, i can tell you that. The Fit is teh pwn for city traffic, zip in and out, park in a pinch.

I will say the Fit does not like sidewinds while doing 100km/h.

I still hate PRE-PAYING FOR GAS before pumping and then going back in to make up the difference. This was the deal in the 80's. What the hell is up with that? That is in metropolitan Detroit and some suburbs. My grandparents live at the Lodge FWY & 7Mile Rd area neighbourhoods.

Too bad it is happening in certain Canadian neighborhoods after certain hours. However, I do like Liquor and Beer sold at supermarkets and on every damn block. Damn, Da Man sure knows how to keep a brotha down.

That is because certain undesireable elements of society like to "gas-and-go." Easiest way around is to use a credit card. I love it. I can get gas without having to talk to anyone.

Tell me about it with lotto tickets.....the other thing that torques me off is when people are deciding on what cigarettes to buy or actually scratching those lotto tickets off to see if they won. If you must do that, take it someplace else. ARGH!

Most of them are scratching to see if they can get the money to buy the cigs and beer.

Can't remember the exact joke but it goes something like "ever notice the people spending their money on beer, cigs, and lotto are always drunk, sick, and broke?"

Sorry Jonniedee, didn't want to hi-jack the thread, but I sat in the Fit again last night at the dlrship and yes..., those goddamn headrests in the back will take a helluva a time to get used to and I was just in the showroom.

Not that this helps, but every car I've owned in the past decade I've installed convex mirrors on the side mirrors and used the lane-changer device on the rear view mirror.
