What would you have bought instead, if......
I wanted a 6 speed Accord, but was unwilling to pay $30K+ for an EXL V-6 just for the six speed. Considered the Civic Si, but premium fuel only & $25K shot it down...then there was the Fit...remote entry, wheels, six speaker stereo, eye candy, and fuel efficient too, all this and ONLY $17K?!! Head over heels in LOVE!!!

I got my GD1 second-hand in 2007, so had I doubled the budget at that time, I probably still would have ended up with a GD...maybe a brand-new GD3 though. Not much choice at that price point here, and I didn't like the Toyota Yaris and Vios (basically the four-door Yaris over there). Both cars were ridiculously cramped inside - no wonder the GDs lasted so damn long!
I thought I liked the FD1/FD2 Civics too at first, but having driven my mom's slushbox-running FD1 for a while, it felt too disconnected to the controls compared to previous, more visceral Hondas. That irritatingly broad dashboard makes it so hard to judge where the car ends, too.
There is now a distinct lack of fun-to-drive cars, and I'm lucky I snagged one of them

- 2006 Honda Civic and up
- 1999 and up BMW 323

When I was deciding to get the fit, the only other car in mind was an 1st gen xb. Since they were both very, oh so cute n kei car like. The fit looked more aerodynamic, nd Honda just sounds better to me, even though my family has been through a Honda accord, and a toyota camry in the past.
But if i was to do it all over again now... (if my car wasnt modded a bit like it is now)
I would take the Mazdaspeed3. or in the same budget but just a bit higher, a Mazda 3 5-door!

I wanted a VW GTI with DSG, but I didn't have enough downpayment and I wanted my payments to be below $400, so I had to go with my second option which was the 09 fit. I still want a GTI, and I'll probably trade in my GE8 for one, but I will wait for the next gen GTI.

I love my Fit, but I do have a Mini Cooper S running through my blood stream.
We're looking at cars and have identified the Fit as our most probable purchase at its price point. However, we could comfortably spend more.
So, for you Fit owners who shopped around a bit, what would you have bought if your budget had been twice as much as what you actually paid for your Fit?

I went back and forth on the Fit and Mini Cooper. Ultimately the Fit won with a much more reasonable cost (to buy and to own). It also has that "go-cart" feeling to me and of course Honda reliability behind it. No regrets on buying the Fit thus far. It is a real fun drive and has given me zero problems.
The Mini Cooper is not off my list of future cars though. I will reevaluate the situation in about 4 years. H#%L, I could end up in a Lincoln for all I know!

Im surprised I did not read about anyone looking at the 5 door versa... We were about to buy the Versa because of price differance but decided to do a little higher monthly payment and downgrade our appartment than go with the Versa.
Im planning on getting a car for myself and retire my 94 Deville. I still want a Fit but the SS Cobalt at only 24k is looking better and better. But on looks the Fit takes the cake!

I can afford a higher priced car, but I see no reason to spend the money. My other (current) cars are a 2001 Nissan Xterra 4X4 and a 2008 Mazda 3 hatchback. I don't understand why Americans don't buy more hatchbacks.

I looked for a while. I ended up buying an 09 fit. only other real choice i was looking at was a used GD3. It sold day i got financing so it was a new one. Love honda reliability and construction. (91 hatch, bad rollover down an overpass embankment, walked away)

If my budget was bigger, I would have waited to compare an Accord Coupe V6-6spd, a Hyundai Genesis Coupe, and a Camaro RS. I also was initially interested in a Mini Cooper or Cooper Clubman, but after driving a Cooper and a '08 Fit Sport I was much more impressed with the Fit Sport. The VW GTI (even a used R32) were originally at the top of the list, but the long term test writeup by Car & Driver on the 2006 GTI eventually convinced me that I could never live with a VW after so many Hondas. The only other vehicles I considered that were in the same budget level with the Fit were various used Jeeps and a 2005 Lexus IS300 Sportdesign. Frankly, if the '09 Fit Sport had not received such a complete makeover I probably would have bought something else. I'm 6'3", and the GD is just a fraction too small. The GE is perfect.

I would get a S2K like i did i ended up trading my 08 fit for a 08 s2k CR. When i bought the fit thats really all i could afford due to me buying a house in FL but once i got here decided not to buy a house. Than i was trying to sell the CR for a house now im keeping her

The other car I looked at closely was actually (don't laugh) a Saturn Astra XR 3-door. It's just such a stinking good looking car, and distinctive too because there just aren't any around anywhere and no one seems to know what it is. It was too bad that the only stick shift ones around seem to be fully loaded (18" rims w/ summer tires, leather, heated seats, etc.) and cost a good bunch more than the Fit. It just didn't seem practical though to spend that much and then have to go out and buy a second set of wheel for winter when I live in a small apartment and have nowhere to store them.
If I were looking for something considerably more expensive, I think a GTI would be it for me.

I've had a lot of high buck cars and still enjoy the Fits
....partly because the less oil money that goes to the Persian Gulf, the better and safer we are
Iran has enough yellow cake uranium as of right now to build 50 nuclear bombs, and those arses are radical nut cases....all developed with oil money
I never met a Hybrid that is fun to drive either, the most fun to drive eco car is the FIT

That is a pretty narrow minded reason, we produce something like 17% of all US oil up here
Oil money keeps the world economy turning for everything. It keeps me employed and when I am making money so are all of the vendors on this forum (usually). If suddenly demand dropped off it would cause the world economy to tank even worse than it has already!
Becides that North Korea has developed nukes with no oil money at all, I am sure Iran would have produced nukes with or without the help of cash from oil in the end.

i was seriously considering a 1992 acura nsx, i found one with 30,000 kilometers and he was only asking 19,000/ the only thing it needed was some new tie rods and ball joints and some tires. i'm kind of kicking myself for not buying it but it wouldn't be a very good winter driver. lol i couldnt see an nsx lasting very long trying to plow through snow drifts

Honda Accord. The Fit is daily runabout, the Accord is for family travel. And it didn't cost twice as much either. The best buy right now is liely the standard Hyundai Azera (not linited). More room, more power, as good mpg, and guarantee period of 10 years.
