Carbon Fiber-----It just never gets old

Im in line for a new Fit and I got a little of the mod bug already( Actually I was hoping to wait awhile before I started looking stuff up but hey, im only human!)

It it just me or does CF never grow old? It's just a great lightweight material that just happens to have a great performance look to it. It seems that some styles turn to rice over the years but as new cars come out, they seem to be utilizing CF in some great ways( New M3 , Porsche GT)What you guys think?

I personally hate it. Looks like black painted pieces from a distance.
And it fades and cracks.

^^Such a hater hahaha

I like the look of CF as long as everything flows and the weave of the CF isn't cheap.

I've always liked carbon fiber. But some people overdue it. It can be very functional in replacing heavier parts with lighter CF pieces. But when people just do CF overlays it kinda defeats the purpose and then becomes a little ricey IMO. Cause you are just adding weight. But Ray is right you gotta take care of it.

I like it on some cars. Like really expensive cars, where it belongs.
And Id run a CF wing, thats it though.

So why replace anything on the Fit? Hood and hatch are plenty light.

I obviously LOVE it.
If I could recommend anything it would be for people to try different weaves and hybrid materials. There are other looks than just 2x2 and 1x1, although those are the most popular for some good reasons. There are satin weaves, wide tow, carbon with colored kevlar and I've been wanting to wanting to try some zylon hybrid too.
Parts shouldn't fade and crack if they were made with the proper materials and are maintained.

I didn't really mean on Fits specifically, just in general it's a good lightweight strong material.

I definatly think there is a limit on how much CF you have on your vehicle. With good taste imo... it can do wonders

Ray, been wanting to know the weight savings for a CF hood on the fit.
With our mid west weather, wouldn't fade, you would need sun shine to do that

Carbon is great and all but if you want light weight might as well get a fiber glass hood and have that painted over. CF hoods are the same thing just one layer of carbon over it. Carbon fiber hoods and anything else carbon can simply last long just by getting it clear coated which prevents it from dulling out and turning yellow. As long as you dont go over board with it and have it tastefully done, you should be fine. O yeah, JDM carbon weaves FTW

well, like ray was saying, carbon fiber usually looks like unpainted parts until you see it up close. with a black car, you rarely realize its carbon fiber until you are close. i like things subtle. but yes, panda cars are badass and i think that white is the only other color that can pull it off.

Agreed! From a distance on black cars it looks like mismatched paint to me. White and CF looks great.

Exactly the case here! People in the Philippines who aren't car enthusiasts usually think of cars with CF parts as owned by people who are "too cheap to finish their half-assed paint job."

Me, I'm okay with it, but if I had any CF parts, I'd paint them over and just let out a little bare CF to tease those in the know.

besides all the interior decorator color scheme thing

j/k

Does anybody know the weight savings on a CF hood?
Removing a bit of the front weight bias would be good.

i only like them on spoilers!

i absolutely now hate carbon fiber. after 2 demolished lips i just lost all my love for carbon fiber.

the weight savings on a hood is a GREAT amount.well i can feel it when i hold one hood in each hand.

i think carbon fiber on a black car is weird. it makes it look like oxidized or just faded black in the sun.

i think it looks best on any car, but black.
