MPG Gas Mileage difference: GD vs. GE
Ok, please do not flame. This is not a contest. I'm just curious to know how the MPG figures differ between the two gens. If there is a topic already on this, please point me in the right direction, as I could not find it.
And please, no hypermiling miles or whatever. Just straight up mileage. Indicate the city/highway miles, auto/manual. If you've had both, please post up both! 100% stock or close to vehicles (list mods).

ehhh, no flames
but not a lot of GE's are even broken in yet.
I did well with my 07 sport at right around 37 (checked it for quite a bit of the 38k miles I put on it)
I am not even going to check my 09 until it has 2k on it or so, I am expecting about the same, to my eyes, the 09 has some aerodynamic improvements, so slightly better MPG could even be in the cards

I've owned both GD3 and GE8 . . .
and both were Sport 5MTs.
Here's what I know so far:
GD3: after 55,000 miles -- 37.405 MPG lifetime average
However, my last 3 months of ownership I saw a significant drop in FE due to our state-mandated ethanol blend in all gasoline. My average fuel economy in the last 3 months of ownership was only 35.503 MPG
GE8: at only 3,800 miles -- 37.691 MPG
A couple of things to note:
So with the same driver, same route and conditions the GE8 is doing better than the GD3 did. I think that the GE8's true average will actually increase a little due to break-in and the coming warmer months of the year.
What is really odd is that the GD3 had a better EPA rating (by ~1 mpg)!

A couple of things to note:
- My experience with the GD3 was the fuel economy was always lower in the cold winter months, even taking into account the a/c use. My GE8 has only seen cold weather driving so far, so I expect it to be even better in the other seasons.
- The GE8 has only seen the ethanol blend fuel that we have now, and it runs great on it. Over time, the GD3's average MPG would have been pulled down more by the continued use of ethanol blend gas.
- My GD3 fuel economy improved after 10k miles. My GE8 is not really broken in yet (3800 miles).

Thanks, jrlnc!! So what's your usual commute consist of? (city/highway).
I'm really looking forward to your MPG figures as your engine starts to break in more and get into the warmer season (burn leaner, no ethanol).

I don't foresee the requirements for ethanol blend gas changing in the future. Many of our surrounding states are using it, and it's all I can get locally.

Thanks for the very solid info. , + rep

if your car ran on normal gas its computer adjusted for it. Did you pull ECU fuse or negative terminal on the battery once ethanol was being used? Because otherwise the car is running on learned settings for normal gas and you would get worse mileage. I know on the accord SOHC vtec motors it made a big difference if you switched fuels and pulled ECU fuse. The twincam hondas like H22 run better if you reset it weekly. Some people even would add a switch in line to the ecu memory wire. Just a thought.

I actually expect my GE8 to be better at least on the highway.
The aerodynamic improvements I see are.......
....very round wedge front end
....roof slope down in rear
....pinched in rear sides flowing in to rounder rear end
....plus the bottom of the car is much smoother.
I will repay the favor with my data in a couple of months
