subwoofer has turn-off pop sound.. do I NEED a new HU?

Hello! I'm a newbie here, looking for some help. I had someone install an amp and subwoofer into my '08Fit (base model). I like it, except there's a really loud POP sound about 2 seconds after I turn off the ignition. I asked my installer about that, and he said that the ONLY way to get rid of this popping problem is to get a new headunit, because the subwoofer is connected to a factory/stock stereo. Is this true?

I'm not a big audiophile, so I'm not sure about brands and things like that. He put in an 800 watt amp from Xtreme and a 10 inch subwoofer from alumapro, all for $340. Am I having this problems because of low quality parts, a poorly done job, or do I really just need to buy a new headunit?

Thank you in advance!!

If you disconnect the audio signal inputs to the amp does it still happen? If so its power related and you could probably fix it with a diode in line with the amps remote.

What you need is an AMP with modern technology Most of today's amps have a "soft" turnoff so you don't get that pop. You might be able to elliminate it with a small capacitor on the remote line to the amp that softens the turnoff. It would have to be tied in by running a small wire to the remote hookup and one from the ground hookup.

Yeah it's the amp. Higher quality brand amps have a "soft turn on" feature that eliminates the popping sound. It has nothing to do with the headunit. Ur installer is just trying to get u to buy a new headunit which is unnecessary and if he was a real qualified installer, he should know it's not the head unit and in fact the amp.

Shouldn't there be a way to add a soft turn off to his amp so he doesn't have to buy a new one? I'm thinking having a time delayed relay connect the amp's output to a load resistor instead of the woofer.

Wow, thanks for the insight!

Can anyone here suggest a modestly priced amp with the soft turn-off feature?

i've tried turning off the radio/stereo before turning off the car, and it still makes that pop sound when I turn off the car.

The guys put in a toggle switch to turn on and off just the amp, and when I turn it on or off, it makes the pop sound, regardless of if the stereo is on or not.

It's making me crazy!
