Non-Ipod MP3 player hookup??

Will it be possible to hook up a non-ipod MP3 player to the factory deck?

If so, will the deck have the ability to control the player, show track listings, etc. etc.??

Hopefully it's not Ipod specific. I thought it was a generic USB connection...but I could be wrong.

I can't see Honda providing a brand specific MP3 connection...that just doesn't make good sense.

I hope so too since I'm part of the minority that doesn't use an iPod(Toshiba GigaBeat for me).

Honda's release calls it "an auxiliary audio jack for input from a portable music player." No specific branding mentioned.

"The Fit Sport also features a premium 160-watt, AM/FM/CD audio system with six speakers, MP3/WMA playback capability, a five-mode equalizer, and an auxiliary audio jack for input from a portable music player. " That is a universal aux in jack that doesnt allow control of MP3 player.

"Fit will offer the Honda Apple(R) iPod(R) Music Link(R) as a dealer-installed accessory. The Honda iPod Music Link allows the user's iPod (sold separately) to fully interact with the audio system. A segment exclusive, Music Link will control all the iPod's features via the audio head unit with album/song information shown on the vehicle's audio unit LCD display. It will also charge the iPOD's battery. " This is an accessory that will allow control of an Ipod from the head unit, nothing else.

There is a tutorial written over at ausfit.com by the famous vividjazz. He managed to get an AUX input connected to stock headunit however it does mean taking out the headunit and adding some wires to it, which is explained in his guide.

Another thing, it won't be able to display the track listing afaik, it'll only show "AUX" on the headunit.

Once connected the Music Link adapter allows your audio system's controls to search for and play music from your iPod and it will also charge the battery! There are 3 ipod kits available. It looks like it is the same Electronic Accessorie for the 2006 Honda Accord Coupe.

Plays CDs, and decodes your favourite MP3s and WMAs from your computer burned discs. The player requires an attachment. Some models may also require a sub-harness. The options are given when adding this item to your cart. This a 2006 Honda Accord Coupe Electronic Accessory but maybe adaptable to the 2007 Honda Fit

Ipod vs MP3 Player for my 09 Fit Sport with Nav Radio.
Can I connect an MP3 player into the USB and use the radio controls like I can with and Ipod?

Thanks,
FK
