Moon Roof

Just FYI, if the Fit had a moon roof, it would add weight to the car, as the roof has to be strengthened. Also, it will take away head room, unless the car is really tall (like the Scion xB). When the A/C is running, your head will not be as cool as the rest of your body. The moon roof lets in a lot of sun during the day, even if you have the "shade" in place, and this does take away from the normal ceiling insulation, and the car doesn't cool down as much as a car without a sun roof. I learned all this the hard way with my old '86 Civic Si. Living in hot Phoenix, you really appreciate a good A/C system, and that car just didn't cut it. Makes me wonder how the Fit would do here - the Fit engine is about the same size as my old Si, and that is a small engine to pull an A/C unit. I did love my Si, so maybe the Fit would be a fun car like the Si was. My hope, anyway.

Since the Fit is a 4 door, I'll have to make use of the rear door windows as my sunroof for fresh air vent.

Some may argue the practical value of the moon roof...in my opinion, it's just plain cool.

I have a hunch that both the way they insulate sunroof visors and the efficiency of of an AC system has improved in 20 years.

In my 1992 Integra GS-R, I can cruise on the highway with the sunroof open, AC pumping, and the temperature stays nice and cool.

The big issue for you is that you live in a very warm climate, with low moisture. AC units found in cars do an excellent job of removing moisture to cool the air. In Ottawa, we get days where the humidity levels are horribly high. So our AC feels much cooler.

Wrote this a while back with no bites. From the pictures, it appears the rear quarter windows are fixed. It would be nice to be able to open them to vent. Any mod wizards out there have any ideas. I am sure it will be much cheaper and easier to add the Mugen window vents, but wouldn't it be cool to be able to open and close the rear quarters from the driver's seat. My 81 1500GL had vent windows, and if I reclined the seat, I could reach them without getting out of the car. I did have to stop, though.

When I had the Civic, when parking outside in the summer, I'd open the sunroof and the 2 rear windows to vent hot air out of the car. The rear windows were the kind that you'd open a latch to open the window; I also put a sun screen in the windshield to keep the car a bit cooler. It does help. One of the local TV stations did a test with a light colored car Vs a dark color, and they found that in the summer, the dark car had inside temp of up to 140 degrees F. I'm always kind of amazed that the heat just doesn't pop out a window sometimes.

Tinted windows also make a huge difference.

I had a 91 Civic Si with Sunroof and the latch out windows. Man I loved those windows. I really miss that car.

I was wondering if the fit windows did the same. I even told my friends that were going to Detroit to ask for me, but they forgot.

I had a 1990 Civic Si. I hope the driving feel reminds me of that Si. That Si was a blast to drive!

The rear windows are clearly fixed.
