Dealers in Detroit, Michigan area that let you test drive alone?
I was wondering if anyone knows of any Honda dealerships in detroit area that let you test drive the car by yourself? I find it hard to relax when the salesman is sitting right next to me
I've tried two dealerships so far and their "policy" was that the sales guy has got to ride with you. Mazda and Toyota let me drive alone though.
I'm on the lookout to test drive a Manual Transmission Sport Fit. I want to get a real assessment of it without feeling pressured before I buy.

Try going at the end of the month on Saturday. Be sure they have one you can drive, and then go in when the most people are there. It helps to have a relationship with a sales guy already, though. You will have to let them make a copy of your license. How old are you? If young, you might not get to drive alone no matter what. Take someone older with you in that case, you'd be more likely to get away with the car.
But just ignore the guy and drive the way you would normally, as TurboMan suggested. They always try to talk to you and distract you from any flaws. And they tell you where to drive, which I really dislike. Thanks, I know where I want to go, and I'll just go there!!

I actually drove the AT at the first dealership with my mom. the salesman sat in back. My mom was dropping her car off for repairs--I was driving her back home after the drop off.
I'm in my late twenties.

Well, you could let your mom go with you again...who steals a car with their mama on board??? But as I said, the best time to get to go alone is when they are so busy they can't see straight. They are more likely to hand you the keys then.
