all-season floor mats

all-season floor mats
I'm happy my sales rep included these with the MSRP price for my '09 Fit Sport, but I did not want to slice my floor in order to install the driver's side mat. Is this no big deal, or am I just being paranoid? I don't see why a rubber mat has to be mounted this way -- especially with an automatic transmission. For now, I'm just driving with an unsecured mat, and it seems fine....

Hi PF
I installed the mat holders on the driver side myself (08 fit ) it's a 1 " cut ,clear insulation away from popin hole on chassie and install holders and you can't even tell you cut the rug. Also it keeps the mat mat from moving around. Do it

My 08 came with carpet floormats already, so the carpet was already cut and the tabs already installed.
After many years of driving with unsecured floormats and having them slide around all over the place, including interfering with your pedals ... I'm happy with secured ones.
The all-weather mats are good to have. I've had them in mine for a while now, and have yet to take them out in place of the carpet floormats.
With as much rain as we get in FL, I have good use for them. Plus they wear better.

On the 08s, the carpet is pre-cut for the location of the plastic holders. I think the foam underneath the carpet was cut too. Neither is cut all the way through, you'll still have to use a knife of some sort to finish the cuts.

Yes, same on passenger side front. The passenger rear is cut also and has holders. The driver rear doesn't have cuts or holders for reasons unknown to me.
The only thing I see is the smaller magic seat is on the same side as the rear carpet with holder. Maybe the designers figured that side would get used for cargo more which would require the mat to stay in place?

You had me, then you lost me. The packet that came with the mats had two plastic locks for the driver's side mat and instructions for only slicing and dicing this side of the floor on the '09 Fit. It said just to place the other 3 mats on the floor. I sense I'm making a mountain out of molehill....

The clips only clip into the steel floor/frame. The mat side hooks into the mat through large holes. To get the mat out, just slip the mat hole back over the hook leaving the hook still clipped into the steel floor of the car.

I stopped by my dealer to get some touch-up paint and ran into my sales guy. I told him that I started the slicing process for the driver's side mat but that in the last couple weeks, I didn't finish the job. He told service to do this for me for free. It was done, and I really like how the locks secure the mat in place. Before, it was sliding all over the place....

i know i had no idea why it took the dealer so long to put in floor mats or why they insisted on doing it for me (although free of charge), but im glad they did. I guess the 09's still use the same cut procedure.

With this being a subcompact car, and with it being such a hot commodity, I can see why this "burden" of mat installation would fall on the owner. Regardless, I really do like the new grip of the secured driver's side mat....

In demand or not it is up to the buyer to ask for the mats at time of purchase or not. If you get the mats with purchase they will be installed but for whatever price you can negotiate.
If you buy the mats after sale then you might get a discount or not but you get to install them yourself unless you can negotiate installation with service- maybe with something else being fixed or installed.
It is not a big deal. I bought my 2008 Fit Sport with no mats or accesories but later at a new owner event got extras for 20% off MSRP which wasn't offered at the time of purchase- all add ons were at MSRP.
2008 Mats require a securing plastic piece to be installed using a few tools (knife to cut out the opening for the plastic on the carpet) for the front two seats and passenger side rear area. It's not hard to do and worth installing completely.
I ran my Fit with the All Season mats and no pegs to secure them and found the mats to easily shift and move to a backward position. They looked bad and worked poorly for the driver. So I installed the pegs.
The holes are pre-cut in the carpet and just have a little cutting to do to open a hole up big enough for the pegs. Overall it is OK.
My Civic has the same sort of peg for the driver's mat.
My Odyssey had a similar mat peg
My other car uses a velcro on one edge to do the same thing.

I appreciate your detailed response and acumen. In all of my years of owning cars, I've always negotiated for free mats; however, I never realized, until the Fit, that one had to be installed. Live and learn....

This must be an old video because the clips are now locks, and the cutting instructions/procedure is different. No big deal for me, though, because my service dept finished the job for me. Thanks anyway...
