A lot of these posts had me LOL'ing, especially when the car lists were going back to the 1970s (props to the dude with the pinto).

For some reason it brought this video to mind:

Dodge 88 AriesVideo

For me, it was a 2002 BMW 325i - just too much on the wallet after 60K in miles and almost everything needed to be replaced. That, and I couldn't get it to pass emissions.

This is a great thread! It got my mental wheels turning. Here we go, in chronological order, earliest to latest. I've almost always owned more than one vehicle at a time so some of these overlap:

1. 1960 Ford Falcon Ranchero, "the rauncho". 200ci 6cyl with a 2-speed automatic (really).

2. 1965 Austin Mini Clubman station wagon. 850cc 4cyl fwd 4spd. It was painted red, white and blue, and it had stars on the roof and a Union Jack painted on the hood.

3. 1966 Volkswagen Westphalia camper van, "the bus". 1500cc 4cyl -20hp or so it seemed. A barn door with no brakes.

4. 1968 BMW 2002. 2L 4cyl 4spd. Didn't have it long, cost too much for a poor boy like me to keep.

5. 1960 VW Beetle. 1.2L 4cyl 36hp 4spd. Had a canvas sunroof that was so big you could stand straight up while driving down the road.

6. 1966 VW Beetle, 1.6L 4cyl ?hp 4spd. Painted a Canadian flag on the (metal) sunroof. Bought it with 60K miles, drove it another 100K miles until rust claimed it. This and the next car are the reason I dislike anything with the name 'Bosch' on it to this day.

7. 1967 Saab 95 station wagon, "starship saabsurprise". 1.7L V4 4spd on the column. Freewheel between the engine and transmission. The ugliest car ever made. Sturdy and reliable, with the exception of the Bosch electrics.

Things get a little foggy right through here. (Must have been all the drugs.) I had a succession of English cars but I am not sure of the exact order...

8. 1966 Austin Mini Cooper, "the cooper". 998cc 4cyl 4spd fwd. A project car, the engine came in boxes in the back seat. I took it all the way apart and put it all the way back together again, fixing everything as I went. Cam, pistons, header, bigger carbs, Konis, fat tires on 10 inch mag wheels. I sold it for 5 times what I originally paid for it and probably 1/5 of what I put into it.

9. 1971 MGBGT, "the midgabidget". 1.8L 4cyl 4spd. White with tan interior. A thing of beauty, a joy to drive, and a pretty darn reliable piece of machinery. I still thinK the BGT was one of the loveliest cars ever made.

10. 1973 MGB roadster" the b". 1.8L 4cyl 4spd. Rust bucket. Perfect 50/50 weight distribution with the bulk of the weight between the axles; open the hood on any 'B' and look at where all the stuff is relative to the wheels and you'll see what I mean.

11. 1967 Morris Mini 850, converted into a pseudo Cooper S by stuffing a 1275cc engine in it. Another basket case; I never actually got this one running.

12. 1974 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, "the bomber". 350ci V8 3spd auto. A complete barge, which was just the ticket because I was working away from home at the time and had a huge commute at the beginning and end of each week. People moved over when they saw it in their rear view mirror. When I was finished with it I gave it away.

13. 1978 Toyota Celica. 2.2L 4cyl 5spd rwd. Picked it up at auction. A fine little car that carried me many many miles and sold me on the sturdiness of Japanese vehicles.

14. 1984? Peugeot 505 sedan. 2.2L 4cyl 3spd auto. My first 'luxury' car. No power but oh what a lovely suspension. Always ran hot in the summertime. Safe as houses but always having some little thing going wrong (Bosch electrics again). My son drove it to college for several years, finally burned the engine up and sold it for parts.

15. 1990 Peugeot 405 station wagon. 1.6L 4cyl 4spd fwd. My first 'new' car, actually a factory demo car with only 400 miles when I bought it. I loved this car but Peugeot bailed out of the US market shortly after I bought it and there very few imported, so I worried about getting parts for it. Besides, I was able to trade it even up for the Peugeot I really wanted...

16. 1988 Peugeot 505S Turbo sedan, "the pooj". 2.2L turbocharged 4cyl 5spd. It was everything my first 505 was, plus it had power. Cars like this won SCCA Showroom Stock National Champion several years running. I hated to part with this car.

17. 2000 Subaru Legacy sedan "the subie". 2.5L 165hp 4cyl 5spd awd. My first AWD car. A fine, sturdy piece of machinery, comfortable and practical. We still have it.

18. 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi, "the loud car". 2.5L 300hp 4cyl 6spd awd. AWD with THREE, count 'em, limited slip differentials, the cener one of which can be controlled from inside the car. An absolute beast. Everything you've read about them is true, and then some. I have never had so much fun behind the wheel in my entire life. I plan on never selling it.

19. 2008 Honda Fit, "the fit". 1.5L 109hp 4cyl 5spd. Tinny little Honda minicar, cute as a button and cheap as hell to own (I hope). I bought it to drive back and forth to work; I have a very long commute and the STi isn't exactly happy as a commuter. An absolute hoot to drive. When it comes time to decide what to drive to work -- the STi or the Fit -- I honestly have a hard time deciding. Mostly I choose the Fit and I don't regret it.

Well that's it so far. I left out my wife's vehicles because, well, they're hers. Two Jeeps. We still have one of those too. And I may have missed one or two in there as I was buying and selling pretty regularly for a little while. And I didn't put any of my bicycles in there either, some of which have more miles on them than the cars.

If I had a bazillion dollars and a big storage garage I would have kept all of them except 6, 12, 13, and 14.

Last January I sold it to my coworker when it had 165k on it. He totaled it a month later. How is it that I can drive it for almost 9 years and he totals it after a month???
huh that was my first car too, had like 190k on it, crap for handling and not that fun to drive IMHO

1st vehicle I had was a gray 86 Dodge Ram truck w/ a 4 sp manual (no pic)

3rd - 93 Red Mazda Mx-3 w/ j-spec 2.5L v-6 swap (no pic)
4th - 97 green Cadillac eldorado
