Is the Fit/Jazz a Safe car?
#42
I've read on other sites that people think the Honda Jazz/Fit will not sell well in the US because its too small for our roads. More to the point the cars on the road are too big for the small Honda.
Now I see in the english online Paper News & Star an article about a lady killed in her Jazz when she hit a Vauxhall Corsa! The Corsa is a small car too and that driver is in the hospital. Imagine what would happen if a Hummer or Suburban hit this car!
Kinda Scary

The opposite rule is THE BIGGER, THE POORER THE MPG.
The Fit is as safe as can be done with conventional manufacturing costs. Sure you could build a NASCAR Fit but the weight would be 3000 lb and 15 mpg costing $25,000.
Or you could build a NASA fit weighing 2200 lb getting 40 mpg but costing $1.2 million.
Or you can be practical building Fit with as many airbags, monitors, and computer limits as you can getting 35 mpg but costing $16000.
The main object is not to provide an absolutely safe vehicle but to provide a reasonably safe one at an affordable price. The one thing not mentioned by the safety nazi is that small nimble vehicles have a better chance of avoiding collisions. Every try herding a Fit vs a Suburban is a parking lot or in the mountains?

Also we're seeing more and more small cars on the road every day. When you drive by a car lot look around, Its full of trucks right? They cant sell them anymore! I bet you $100 that you cant find a lot with a hyundai accent, a toyota yaris, or a honda fit... with more than two in stock, yet those same dealers will have about 25 version of every single SUV and truck.
