Fit for Competition (Ford Fiesta)
Pardon the pun. I couldn't resist.
I just found this in a search. It looks like old hat, but interesting none-the-less. Perhaps Ford is looking to take a slice of the US subcompact market. However, one of the words in the link is gossip, so who the heck knows!
It doesn't look to have near the cargo room of the Fit.

Ford will sell the Fiesta in the US when monkeys fly out of my butt. They can't even make a buck selling the Focus. I doubt Ford management has the balls to admit defeat and bring the Fiesta. They are too busy squeezing another 1/2 mile per gallon out of the Expedition.

However, with the high price of gasoline...
...There are stories being reported in the automotive press that Ford is looking at selling the Fiesta in the USA when the new Mazda-developed B-segment platform is available in calendar year 2007, to be built in Mexico by expanding Ford's current production lines there.
This means we'll not only see the Fiesta in the USA, but also the next-generation Mazda2, also.

Fiesta
This reminds me of when I bought a Ford Fiesta, when they first came to the US. Mine was a 1978 model, little 2 door hatchback. I loved that little car, but it was pretty much dead after it had 100,000 miles on it. I traded it in on a 1986 Honda Civic Si. The Civic was just as much fun to drive, but it was such a better car that there was almost no comparison. The Civic lasted almost 200,000 miles. I would think that if you compared a Fiesta today to a Fit, the results would be the same. Both would be fun cars to drive, but the Honda would be the better buy.
