BTW Based on testing you will have to deliver 41mpg FE if your willing to almost drain the tank and 47mpg if you fill up when the E light comes on. ...to get that 500 mile tank in your Fit
I ran mine dry on purpose last week to see what a Fit gas tank really holds on my quest for a 600 mile tank. I had a measured 1 gal gas can in the back and when she started to sputter, simpley pulled over and added the gal. It was no big deal. Not surprised nobody had the nads to find that key data point out.
12.4 to 12.5 is all she holds
The neck may hold 1/3 gal tops
Tons of misinformation on that in here

LOL!
I wouldn't believe a word of it either if I haven't seen it and done it myself. So, I topped off the tank literally:
That added an additional 3 gallons after the first click(auto shut off of the gas pump).........I know it is suppose to be a 10.8gallon tank but it can hold more........I was a nonbeliever too. Like I said, I never believed it until I did it. So, if I have about 13-14gallons of gas and I achieve 60-65mpg for the whole tank then I should achieve 780miles-910miles for the tank.
Hell, I just topped my wifes 2008 CRV and it took an additional 4 gallons after the first shut off.

Ohh man I knew it would show up in time.
Now watch the fur FLY
The fact is I was biotchen about my poor repeatability on my Fill and Wayne suggested I do this so I did as well as Shawn.
Now Shawn being the blabbermouth has infected you Freaks as well
We do this as a test and we are skilled Hypermillers. This is not recommended so kids do not try this.

Awwww, I knew it!
That's it...I'm gonna' try it too.
BTW, my current tank is in the 'tank'. Way too much stress at work has caused much A/C use (everywhere), 4.5k rpm merging, and a bad case of the **ckit's when it comes to N-coast/FAS, etc.
Probably looking at 38mpg this tank. However I'm gonna' try hard to keep my over 40 for EVERY tank whole. Avg. will still be over 40 though.

Results:
Topped off tank before and after fill to get the max distance. P&G from 45-35 on local hwy and P&G from 52-45 on interstate. Shifted at 2K.
Used 13.2 gallons = 65.4mpg
I guess I could of safely driven another 52 miles if it holds 14gallons. I just wasn't sure how much it holds and how accurate the fuel gauge was reading. I wasn't willing to run out of gas...... (I chickened out!)

You guys are nuts
I dont think I'll ever get over 40MPG, and I think I drive conservatively with a little bit of spirited driving ever so often to pass others.
Now for filling up the tank/fuel line that much isn't there any cons that could occur?? I would think this would be dangerous/bad for the car.

Man, it's hardly worth posting after that
Well, I got 47 MPG on 11.1 gallons, 518.1 miles for the tank. Personal best.
AT (with paddles)
P&G whenever possible, 62-50 on the freeway most of the time (lousy AT gearing). Personal best commute was on this tank: 50.3 in, 45 out.
Mods (also in my sig): T1R carbon fiber intake, T1R Response header, Skunk2 50mm catback.
It would be better, but it's just too tempting to get on it juuust once in a while...

that's not bad at all. in fact, filling the tank until it's ready to overflow is cheating, at least in my book.
you say you used P&G... did you shift into neutral to do that? because that gives worse mileage than just taking your foot off the gas.

I'm beginning to see my Fit shine, at first I was doubting when a member post a 400+ miles a tank and calling it BS . Now I'm almost there and probably will go over 400, the thing is on the first quarter tank I was driving the card hard because I was late going to work. On my next tank of gas I will aim to get 500+ miles.

You obviously know what you are doing so don't listen to the others on here that don't know what they are doing. Keep up the good work!
Getting on it is sooooooooooo hard to resist. It took me 1.5 weeks of not driving over 45mph(for most of my trip) in a 60mph zone!!!
You obviously know that the slower you go the better mpg you will get but is it worth it??? It isn't worth it for me to keep driving how I did on that record tank(for me). I am going to leave it up to someone else to exceed that mpg and mileage. I am captain impatient!
