Thanks pb and h
One thing I've had a hard time figuring out is the right speed for the AT. Since its gearing is taller, I have to go a bit faster to stay in the powerband, especially in hilly terrain like my regular commute. It likes to be going 60-65, especially on steeper hills. Anything less, and I'm pushing 95% load.
(EDIT: uphill gives 85-90% load at 55 MPH, yielding 34-36 MPG; compared to 78-80% load at 60-65 MPH, yielding 38-42 MPG per SGII)

I just use DFCO, mostly. In fact, many times I get better mileage in stop-and-go than at freeway speeds. Oh, and to clarify, I always use the paddles. I also DWL and DWB whenever I can.

you say you used P&G... did you shift into neutral to do that? because that gives worse mileage than just taking your foot off the gas.

Man o'man I step away for a couple of day's and look at these numbers!!
47 in an AT is awesome....65+ mpg in a MT!!!
I'd love to hit the majic 50mpg mark with my AT, but I'm finding I have to go into town too often....That keeps me in the upper 40's (Not complaining!)
I wonder were are all the HATERS are now? Sure is quite isn't it?

I have found most on here really don't want it that bad.

nonbeliever
I was a nonbeliever too. Like I said, I never believed it until I did it. So, if I have about 13-14gallons of gas and I achieve 60-65mpg for the whole tank then I should achieve 780miles-910miles for the tank.

I cant wait to get a Fit and start shooting for 50+ MPG's, should be fun.
However I do have a gripe, with the people that use the FAS technique, are you guys actually turning your engines off while doing 60-70mph on an Interstate where anything can happen at will? To me, that's beyond dangerous to the point where it's beyond retarded considering the facts.
1. It's unpredictable, at any time Bambi could decide she wants a ride on your hood and since your brakes are assisted by your computer and vaccum and your power steering is run by your engine guess what...........You'll win the prize for the day, a nice brown 4 legged hood ornimant that will completely ruin your day and recoupe all those savings you had from FAS.
2. Pretty much summed it all up in post 1 lol.
Reguardless, I look forward to joining the maddness.

you make some good points. that's the main reason i've never shut my engine off while moving; the risks are too great. the engine controls power steering and braking, two things i'm not willing to give up at 60 mph.
the good news is you don't need to shut the engine off to get 50 mpg. just drive like you're 90 years old and halfway blind and you're gonna see results.

LOL, you guys have valid points about safety.
First I must say that you do NOT loose control of the car when the engine is off. You retain power steering and breaks. The breaks will always work but you can get 6 good pumps before you loose the ability of the break booster(not sure if that is the correct term) and you will just have to use some elbow or foot grease at that point to push hard on the break pedal to slow or stop the car.
If you want to attempt FAS, I suggest practice in a desolate area.

so what is a good number for those who drive city, because i have been holding on to my gas receipts and doing the math and i drive very conservatively and i average 26 mpg the best i have ever seen was 28 mpg twice and not sure how i did that.
also im stock except a DIY intake

My daily commute is like a country drive compared to ATL traffic.
Driving below the speed limit is the only way to get great mpg in the FIT unfortunately. That is why I am going to get rid of it if the Honda Insight II, CRZ or Prius III is worth a shit.

Man, I know what you mean. I drive for Greyhound. At 5:30 in the evening, you're lucky to be doing 10mph, let alone getting anywhere near the speed limit. I once called downtown to have them hold a bus that was leaving in an hour... and I was only three miles from the exit... and I didn't make it in time.
Oh...
You meant going that slow.
It can be done, provided one stays far over in the right lane. Just because the average Atlanta asshat is doing 90 in a 45 doesn't mean that you have to. Watching people go flying by the cops on I-75 is interesting. I, myself, have passed both ATL and GA State Police doing 15 over and not even been the least worried about getting a ticket. Funny, you don't see people doing that in Arkansas, though, where the penalty for speeding is $50 for every mph over the limit; and they will ticket you for doing 3mph over. Fines are doubled in construction zones to $100 for every mph over.
Best tank to date was:
551.2 miles
11.1 gallons (I stopped and put in 1.011 gal the night before to avoid the crappy gas in Louisville)
Yielding: 49.46mpg, or a theoretical 536 mile tank on 10.8 gallons.
I drove no faster than 55 anywhere, with limited P-n-G and FAS. Base AT
