All the stuff that "Fits" in a Fit

Hey Fellow Freaks,

Since there has been some discussion of this lately, I thought I would ask for an update from some of you, regarding the biggest item you have hauled in your Fit.

Sadly, I am getting a divorce and moving across town, so I was moving everything that I could move in the Fit before borrowing a truck. Most everything was easy enough; a 37" TV was no trouble. Boxes full of crap, no trouble. The items that really surprised me by "fitting" in the Fit were: a) a full-sized chest of drawers, and b) a grandfather clock! (These items were moved in separate trips, of course.) The chest of drawers went in behind both front seats. The grandfather clock required me to switch the seats to "long" mode, so a passenger wouldn't have been able to ride safely.

Huhuh. It's like a truck. Huhuh.

HUhuhuh.

I fit into my Fit enough tools to build a deck (including one very large sliding compound miter saw), three kids, and all our luggage for a week. It was loaded down to where it looked like it was lowered, but I still got 36mpg avg. on the trip up to Chicago. Average speed was around 70mph.

I bought a bookcase from Target that measured 6ft when put together. The box itself was closer to 6'4". I didn't even think about whether it'd fit in the Fit until I got to the parking lot. The wife had to get into the back seat, but I managed to get it home.

As unbelievable as it is, I did not take any photos of the big stuff in the Fit. I could lie and say my cameras were packed away, but the truth is, it was just so hot on those days, that it seemed like a lot of trouble to go inside and get a camera, get the shots, and put the camera away, and then do the necessary task of getting the clock (or chest) out of the car. Maybe it's just my attitude, but I think it's the heat.

And thanks for your sympathy, Fitftw. It's OK. It's very friendly and amicable.

I have done ikea runs on serveral occasions, and most recently fit a 7' book case, two lamps, a rug, small miscelaneous, tv stand, computer chair, dress of drawers, and two people.
all of the items were in convenient boxes for those of you not around ikea.

More Cargo...

I forgot to take a picture of it when I had it in the Fit, but with the seats down (obviously) It took up the entire back. My brother pulled it up so it sat right on the ledge of the back window, while I moved the front seats all the way back. It was a snug fit.

Here is mine largest haul so far:

3+2 sofa

Still had some space for more in the rear. Passenger seat free.
I was thinking of the German Tetris Jazz ad when I put the items in

i've been able to fit a mountain bike stright in with the both seats down parallel to the direction the car was facing w/o taking off of the wheels, the front wheel went over where my armrest is now( did not have the armrest at that time)

Also can fit a mountain bike perpendicular to the direction the car is facing in tall mode.

in the advertisements they fit a camel into the car.

can any of you beat that?

Just be careful who you brag to, or your buddies will start to ask to borrow it to move with!

This is what I bought it for:

Obsession Telescopes / Telescopes / 18"

That plus ladders, tent, eyepieces, big binos, lawn chair, extra clothing, sleepting bag, about 30 lbs of books, and an ice chest... is my record so far. I wish I had pictures.

7 guys. Yesterday while doing some training in the mountains I loaded me and six other guys in my Fit. Who needs a minivan or a third row of seats.

Also, this did overload the car on a bumpy twisty gravel mountain road. Do not attempt.

my fiance and i moved all of our stuff (we have a LOT of stuff) in 6 car loads (3 trips with 2 fits). we moved everying except for the queen sized bed, kitchen table and a huge 6.5' long dresser. it was a breeze (except that it was 90-something degrees and we moved into a 3rd floor apartment).

i moved all of my music gear in one trip. 4 guitars, midi controller keyboard, computer, mixer, microphones/mic stands, cables, amp, etc... and had a lot of room left, but i didn't want to stack anything on top of eachother.
