OK...this is going to sound bizarre, but:

Just did nearly 1200 miles thru high Rockies and UT Wasatch with a friend in his Boxter (yes he condescended to toy with me a bit--he's a racing instructor--normally in an Exige).

So it was Semi-spirited (a very occasional max of 7/10 to preclude divorce, but a couple of slides nevertheless) in a BBP MT . The first day we had a few brief flings with some 2-wheelers. Lot's of up/downs & twisties. No AC, but some fan to up the fresh air. Fuel was Shell Reg. (95 octane at our elevations) and Conoco (same). OEM tires at 37. Light load until last day which was floor to ceiling stuff from IKEA.

Tried to fill to same level, but that's not reliable on different nozzles. RPMs never lower than 3500, mostly above 4.5 on the spirited days. MPG the first day was 49!! Second day 51. Another day 52 (with AC, buit that day covered Park City to Wellington UT which is two long downs and one sort-of-mild up.

Trip also included a lot of 25 MPH and less 1st & 2nd gear cruising to look at home architecture (a hobby of ours) and lots of SLC gridlock.

Lowest tank was 42, highest was that 52 above. Average was 44.

I'm still trying to get up off the floor!

This was my first longish voyage in it (it's the wife's car). Got to be the most cost-effective 4-wheeler out there. Holds buckets of stuff.

We've had it 6500+ miles. Lowest MPG was 36. Highest was that 52. Overall average is 43 because it's mostly driven 2.5 miles, parked, then driven 2.5 miles back. Not very many road trips.

Now I want one for me! But if I do it'll be an AT. I love the paddles on my Rogue, although that has seven "speeds", not just five. And teh AT would be much more pleasant in metro environs.

Anybody our there thinking hybrid, if you drive it right, the FIT will be more cost-effective than current hybrids, unless you're all the time in the city.

The only disadvantage I found was feeling sometimes like a minnow in a 'Cuda pack in Park City with all the Escalades, Cayennes, and other pukeUVs (none of which had any wear on their hitches, most of which had one person onboard...crikey! GUess we'll take a periscope next time.

I heeltoe and rev match when i drive normally but never go above speed limit. Occasional redline to catch to traffic on the freeway. Lowest iv gotten was 26mpg the first 3 weeks i owned the fit. Im guessing it was the break-in period. Now im getting 30-31mpg after a month.

I'm averaging 33mpg. I usually shift at 3k-3.5k from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, then 3k for the rest. I occasionally get it up past 4k to hear the exhaust and intake MT FTW.

I've been driving like that since I got the car and the lowest I've ever got was 29.5mpg, twice. But both those times were last year during the first 5 tanks.

I punch it to the floor, average about 80-ish miles per hour on the highway, up to 100 every few days. Punch it down to the floor to pass and I have an AT. 40% city driving and I rack up 300 miles of road time in about 3-4 days. I get 31.5 at the best. Which is good for my foot. When I was on business in Tulsa driving GM cars, I had a stock Cobalt and I got like 24 MPG in it.

I haven't changed my driving patterns with the Fit - I still drive what I consider normally - i don't gun it but I don't grandma it either. I get an average of 28 fairly consistently - as low as 26 and as high as 30.

I've got other factors to consider, though - It's Houston so I ALWAYS run my Air conditioning, I have an A/T, and I always have fairly heavy cargo (namely my fat butt).

I drive in a spirited fashion almost all the time. My definition of "spirited": I don't drag race the Fit -- there really isn't much point to it, and my other car is an STi so if want straight line fun I drive that. But I do accelerate briskly, usually to 3500-4500, sometimes higher if I need to scoot. Once up to speed I move with traffic, neither slower nor faster. I really love tossing it through the corners and take them at speeds well above what most folks consider normal. Then there are those true favorites that I feel cheated if the tires don't howl!

On my commute I get 40MPG on average. That includes quite a few miles of highway cruising and one or more of those favorite turns. If I do more local driving, which is rural secondary roads and more corner tossing, my mileage will drop a bit, woohoo.

In my MT base with 75% city driving and using the A/C half the time, i get about 29 mpg with a heavy foot. i get about 34 mpg without the A/C and driving nicer.
My fiance's AT sport averages about 29 mpg with A/C nearly all the time and driving 50/50 city/hwy. best tank in her car was on a trip to palm springs... 41 mpg all highway, no A/C.
