Why Honda didn't call the Fit by it's intended name?

This may be old news for some of you, but I found it hilarious!

Why Honda Didn’t Call The Fit - Jazz By Its Intended Name... | Carscoop

"You know why they didn't call the Honda Jazz/Fit by its intended name?

Honda had originally planned to name the first-gen the Honda Fitta. Probably sounds ok to you? If you were in Scandinavia though that would be the same as calling the car “the Honda Pussy”!

That's why they chose to call it the Honda Jazz in Europe but modified the original name slightly to Honda Fit in the US (Honda deemed Fit to be too close to the original name in Scandinavia). Honda had even made the brochures and the slogan for the model when the name problem was discovered.

The slogan: “Small on the outside but big on the inside”. Just imagine the adverts for that car in Scandinavia: Honda Fitta (Pussy). Small on the outside but big on the inside!"

That was one of the reason I wanted the car. But unfortunately they have change the name to Jazz...
But I'm not so sure if this was an acutally true story, I think it is more half way true. I have seen no evidence of the name Fitta from Honda. From the Honda literature I have got and read there was an old Honda Fit frome old time, and Honda sometimes use a good name over again. So the intended name as far as I have found out was "Fit", but when it came to be released worldwide (included scandinavia), the word Fit would still easy be translated/made a slang with the 'a ending and then we got that other Swedish/Norwegian name that someone think its bad to say or write

I even asked the dealer if he could get hold of the "orginal" nametag with the -ta ending, he thought it was funny too so when I asked for it that he made a big effort in getting hold on that nametag. But there was no documets about that at all, he could only get Fit or Jazz, but I could select between red, blue, gold or silver dot. (I have never since heard about the gold and silver dot). But since I could not get that strange name I just told him to leave it to the standard nametag.

I dont think the name Jazz has that good wibe to it as the Fit has. Fit in english is fitting the Fit

It was like back in the day when Chevy came out with the Chevy Nova. Sales in Mexico weren't doing so well since "no va" in Spanish means, "no go". A lot of Mexicans were not looking forward to buying a car that doesn't go.
