has anyone mask their front end?

just seeing if anyone has taped up their front end with masking tape. Reason im going out of town and dont want bugs dying or chipping my bumper/hood. Does it leave any residue or peel the paint afterwards??? seeing how many people complain about the paint job on the fit. TIA

+1 for blue painter's tape. make sure you tape from bottom to top
while overlapping the tops of the tape on the verticle plane and
top to bottom overlapping the bottoms on the horizontal plane.

otherwise the tape will start peeling back on your hood from wind
or water will get under it and start peeling off mid-trip.

I've done the blue painters tape thing for years. I've never been one to buy car bras, so the tape comes in realy handy when going on a trip. The perfect substitute to keep your car safe and looking good.

There shouldn't be any residue left, and the tape won't peel any clear coat or paint away either. Just be sure to tape the hell out of the front end and cover everything. I usually do the hood, front bumper, headlights (if traveling during the day), A-Pillars, front fenders, and fogs. I tape up the entire front end up to the doors. I'm heading out on a road trip in a week, and I'll be doing the same thing

Have a safe trip!!!

DAN

Does plastic food wrap work? Seems like it would be way faster and im sure once the static clings it, it should stay on when driven against the wind. Anyone tried this?

I wouldn't use saran wrap or anything like that. It would be quicker but it may also peel your clear coat off. which would be hell in the long run.

DO NOT use it. I did once, it left a residue on the front of my car. Some of it lifted due to the speeds I was driving at (common sense) it actually left scuffs on my hood from it whipping around.

I managed to clean all the residue off and the scuff. It took some time.
Masking tape is best. Ive used it many times. I recently gave in and bought a bra though. Its pretty cheap from Honda.

Id suggest blue painters tape. Dont go cheap, get 3M. It last the longest with clean removal.
During love bug season I left my front end masked for a whole month. Just washed the bugs off the tape when I washed my car. Tape didnt fall off or nothing.
When I removed it it peeled clean.

Wish I did that for my car, will be doing that later on, wonder how the blue tape works with the clear-bra... I'm sure the clearbra is good, but it will get scuffed up either way.
