RFID key FOB--leave the keys in the pocket?
Hey guys,
This isn't really a post asking about this feature for the Fit, as I am fairly certain it will not be used for the 2009 Fit. Really, it's about the technology in general, and me wondering why more auto manufacturers don't use it.
The Prius uses one (has for years), and the Nissan Versa has it as an option as well. They have "keys" that simply stay in your pocket. The car knows when you are approaching, and allows you to unlock the doors. It also knows when you are in the car, so you need not take your keys out of your pocket--just hit "Start" and go! When you walk away from your car, it locks the doors.
It also makes it impossible for you to lock yourself out of your car.
Is this technology so expensive that car companies don't want to use it? I thought RFID was pretty cheap nowadays... They can charge a premium for it, I would think, and make a nice profit....
It's just a little convenience I would like to see becoming more commonplace.

I have it on my SER. very convenient. But you need to tell Honda, not us in that post section.

It is convenient and keeps the car and A/C running for the wifey comfort when you go inside somewhere.
Unfortunately, there isn't one in the trunk so when the trunk jammed ( I think the lid ring pushed past the release lift but iIdon't really know) and I had to take out the back seat cushion and back to get into the trunk and use the gov't required inside trunk release to open the trunk.
