Scangauge velcro failing in heat

It was about 95 degrees here yesterday and when I came out to my car, my scangauge was nowhere to be seen. It took me a moment but I realized the glue from the velcro had melted and the scangauge had fallen off. Anyone have any methods of getting around that problem?

i haven't had that problem. and we've had weather hotter than that. where are you trying to mount the scangauge? i have mine on the top of the steering column cover and it doesn't seem like it'd go anywhere

It was beneath the climate control knobs, so admittedly, I had gravity working against me as well.

aah. have you tried a larger piece of velcro? or possible switch to double-sided tape?

There are some better adhesives, like Gorilla, but the secret is a good thorough cleaning of any plastic surface prior to gluing, and that includes sanding with fine gritsandpaper and often scoring the area with an xacto knife. And of course, small screws.
Gluing to vertical plastics is not a good project.
good luck

you'll need to find the velcro with the red backing. the velcro w/ the blue backing isn't designed for high-heat apps. i found that using when i used regular blue-backed velcro to mount my tollroad transponder.

they sent some more velcro and it had the red backing on it.

btw-i couldn't find any black colored red-backed velcro, though....only white.

Mine failed as well. But I have industrial strength velcro at home so I'm gonna try that stuff out.

I picked up some 2" wide stuff at Home Depot after the first time it came off and that stuff hasn't let go. I have my unit hanging from the velcro so gravity is a factor in my install also. The original fuzzy stuff is still on the unit.
