Insurance Talk
Hey All,
I'm coming from an 05 Saabaru (wrx rebadged as a Saab) and I was wondering what you guys are paying for insurance. Currently I pay about 100/month!!
I'm 28 and don't have to much craziness on my record that traffic school couldn't fix.
I may be joining the fit family soon as I'm also paying about $200/month for gas at $4.25 a gallon!
Thanks!

yes i would like to know what you youngins are paying before i buy myself a FIT also. I figure it should be a little less or little more than what i was paying on my GSR, which was $94/month for full coverage - 6 months.

To be honest, there's actually no point in comparing rates from other people as there are soooo many factors that determine a person's rate an accurate comparison is near impossible -- the state they live in, the region w/i the state itself, their age, their driving experience, their credit background, their driving record, married or not, male or female, past insurance experience, homeowner or not, the vehicle itself, driving distance, type of use, annual mileage, not to mention coverages (which vary widely state to state) and discounts (which also vary widely). All of this and more goes into the rate you get. Unless everything is literally exact for both people, you're comparing apples to oranges to grapes in every case. As an example, CA bases part of their rates on # of years licensed plus miles driven whereas all other states go by age plus mileage. Right there if you're comparing to anyone outside of CA the rate is calculated entirely different, so it's not a valid comparison. Best thing to do is go online and get quotes from various companies to see what rate they will give you for yourself and the exact vehicle you're going to purchase, then pick the one that suits you best.
In case you're wondering, I write insurance (auto, home, flood, etc.) for a major provider and am licensed in 48 states, so I see it all day in and day out .

Well, It couldn't hurt to know right? I'm curious to see what others are paying in relation to myself. I've heard it's also based on engine size, theft occurrences for that particular model, and accident history on that particular model, and the age of the vehicle.
Good to know though.

What amazes me is the huge variance that can occur from one insurance company to another, for the same coverage!
When my wife and I got married, we shopped around for a joint policy to cover us both. I remember, at the time, GEICO wanted about $690 or so for 6 months, and USAA wanted $1300!!!!
Exact same coverage, exact same numbers. (nothing to do with Fits, this was 5 years ago)

There was a previous thread where many people chimed in about what they were paying and the ranges were huge! However it made me realize that I could get a better deal and I switch insurance companies.

Don't know if this helps as opposed to how much I pay in toto -- my new 2008 Fit Sport MT is costing less than $100 a year more to insure than my 1997 Subaru Impreza. I expected insurance for the new car to be a lot more and was pleasantly surprised. Didn't ask, but my guess is the reason is that the Fit has much better safety ratings than the older car.
However, if you want to know how much a given auto will cost you, just call your insurance agent and ask. I did that before buying a car once when I was trying to decide on models.

I paid $400/6 months on my WRX Sti ($66.67 a month)
I paid $400/6 months on my IS350 ($66.67 a month)
When I bought my Fit I now pay $200/6 months ($33 a month).
I pay $300/6 months on the Honda Pilot ($50 a month)
All full coverage ($250 deductible)
Progressive.
I have a $1K accident last year in my IS350 where a dude in a big jacked up F250 road raged me and rammed the side of my car with his tires. He then ran (hit and run). Didn’t effect my rates at all. I also have 1 ticket in the past 3 years now (last year, 65 in a 55).
