About to buy a Fit
I was able to test drive a Fit down in Chicago a few weeks ago, and yesterday my local dealer called and said that he had one in and available.
Its the manual '08 Sport in Black. My wife (who happens to have alot of power in this decision) is going to drive it tommorow, and if I have her blessing, I'm going to pick it up.
I think I'm getting a good deal, but I have never bought a brand new car before. Can anyone offer any tips/ideas on the process?
I'm extremely excited to pick this vehicle up.

There's nothing wrong w/ shopping around (if you can get the Costco discount it helps) or shop around on the internet, so that when you go into the dealer you'll know what the average price is, and it should all be close anyway.
AT or MT?? Congrats on you great taste in transportation!!

Unfortunately, the usual wholesale new minus wholesale trade-in plus profit (anywhere form nothing - poor seller - to more than a thousand - big demand - but don't count on less than $500. less rebates (ha!) , and add tags, taxes, and transfer goes out the window with the economical Fit and Honda.
At least if you have a trade check NADA and KBB to find out what its worth WHOLESALE (TRADE-IN) so you at least have some idea if you are getting a fair deal. Expect however, the difference between trade-in and full retail (msrp) PRICE PLUS THE RIDICULOUS TRANSACTION FEE OF $349 TO $749 as well as taxes, tags, and transfers.
Fits around here are worth more than Buicks.
Good luck. PS it won't hurt for you to offer to buy on the 'usual' process. If he laughs, brace yourself. remember you're saving on gas to buy baby's food. And who knows he might be one of the good Honda dealers.

read the engine break sticky, and the "what you don't like about your fit" threads for all sorts of options.

Do plenty of research and do not fall for any of the "hurry up and buy it before it is gone" or things of that sort.
This website is a must read:
Auto advice: car buying, auto leasing, car insurance at Edmunds
If you walk onto the lot with more information than the salesman has, you are going to get a good deal.
Good luck.

I got it, and we love it!
Well, I picked up the Fit back on May 23rd and then had to fly out for a vacation...
Now that we have had a chance to spend a solid week or so with it - WOW!
This is the first new car I have ever bought and my wife is as happy as possible with it.
