stalling problems

So anyone else have problems with their engine stalling after a decently hard run. Like say u were passing people on the interstate for a short time doing 90+ and then u get off the interstate and while waiting at the red light on the off ramp either ur car dies or dies when u try to take off. Anyone ever experience this phenomenon?

well my car does die alot which is weird, also i experience the 2nd gear grind if i'm really gettin on it. which really pisses me off. because i never experienced anything like that when i test drove one. I've been driving a standard for like 15 years and never had so much trouble before. but from what people have told me thats normal. so i don't know anymore

You've killed the second gear sycro's.
Good luck with warranty on that.
90mph, passing, hard launches (syncro's) are not what this car was designed for.
Dude, these are economy cars and you are killing yours.
Get a performance car.

i totally understand that its not meant for that. I think i've done the 90 mph thing twice. BUT as far as the syncros go i've been experiencing this since like the third day i owned the car. and i babied the car bigtime for the first 1000 miles, never over 3500 rpms for the first 500 miles, never over 70 for the first 500 miles. And it was still having the weird 2nd gear issues. So as far as i'm concerned that is a warranty related issue.

Sorry, that's a load of crap. People track and autox these cars regularly with no problems whatsoever, and have for a number of years now. It's one of the reasons the Fit is so popular with JDM compact car fans and why there's so many parts available. If the OP is getting a true 2nd gear grind, and not just the normal 2nd gear roughness that shows up in most people's cars, it's either operator error or a true issue the dealer needs to look into. In any case, the car handles rough driving exceptionally well, there should be no issues coming from it assuming proper maintainence.

I used to be the guy to tell the service writer to deny warranty.
As a mechanic for over 20 years I would look at the syncro's and if they were butchered but the main shafts were ok..........
Every case is different of course.

Sorry, I should have been more clear (and less abrasive) -- you're right about syncros, warranty, etc. -- you crunch 'em and it's your own nickel that's gonna be paid. I was referring only to the car not being able to handle the rigors of hard driving like track/autox use b/c it does hold up quite well and there are a number of owners who put these cars through their paces regularly; they just go and go without a hitch. YMMV though as that's assuming the owner knows hi-perf driving and how to do it properly.

Probably a different issue, but since day 1 on mine, when slowing down to a stopsign or whatever, if I dont come to a complete stop (and who does at them, no one local for sure!), then give it gas to get going again it stumbles a but, like a very brief hesitation. Thats just in normal driving, no 90 mph blast or anything. I do have the AT also. Anyone else experience something like that? Thinkin maybe its the drive by wire thing, never had a car that didnt use a cable for the throttle before.

Run a can of injector cleaner in your gas. (one not containing alcohol) and check you linkages to make sure they 'wind down' smoothly.
PS we recommend to all our customers that they run a can of injector cleaner, non=alcohol, from WallyWorld at roughly a buck a can, once a month.
Gasoline is getting dirtier thanks to wide open processing.

thats a good idea. didn't think about the injector cleaner just cuz the car is so new and only has about 11k miles on it.

Now like i said i can understand if the syncros were blown. But i drove an 08 sport and it had the smoothest gearbox i'd ever used. once i got my 07 base it was a different story. And the "grind" that i refer to isn't always with rough driving so to speak i can just be gingerly taking off at a red light and it blatently misses 2nd gear. Or sometimes dies in 1st. Like i said i've been driving manual transmission vehicles for a long time. only had 1 automatic ever. I've had some really shitty manuals and some nice ones. But never a gear box as problematic as this one. Someone once told me it was because the fit has little torque but i don't think this is the problem. And the 2nd gear grind well i don't know what to say about that.

But i am going to be getting wheels and tires, springs and exhaust, swaybar and strut tower bars. BUT before i put any of this on i want to show the dealer that the car has issues before that stuff so they can't blame it on stuff that wasn't even around when the problem originated....

To tell you the truth, 2nd to 3rd is the synco that usually gets fragged.
Take it in if its under warranty.
I repaired my share of 80's Mitsubishi Mirage 5 speeds that had been abused including my own!
But I didn't get warranty on mine! Bastards!

yeah i'm going to try to get off work to get out there so they can check the brakes and the tranny. I could understand paying for it if i ruined it but its been doing it since the beginning so i don't know what to say. And the brakes, well i don't know what to say about that one. maybe its build up, or just shitty brakes. Because everyone know they can't be "warped" lol
