New member question

I'm planning on buying a Fit.
I would like to know how it handles in the snow?

My experience was crappy in southern New England with a 5MT and i/h/e. However many people say it does fine for them .

It handled just fine for me this winter (NY). Its a light car so it can spin a bit from a standstill but afterwards its just fine. However its not an SUV so if you mean driving through deep snow on unplowed roads I wouldn't expect good results.

The Canadians seem to really like it.

I live in Wisconsin and it so happens that when i bought my fit we got hit by some of our hardest snow storms and it did fine. It is like any other car in rough conditions you got to be easy on it and you will be fine.

Regardless of whether your winter experience was good or not, did you have snow tires put on?

And if so, how much were they? I glanced at the service area when I picked mine up, they list it as $768 + tax (presumably installed along with purchase).

The Fit handled the snows that we had in WV this past winter without any problem. I had gone from driving a Ford Ranger to the Fit and I have to say the Fit felt better as far as driving on snowy roads than the truck did.
Now if we have a deep snow, your Fit is going to act like a plow so I am praying that we don't get any of those. In 1978 we had 22 inches - the snow mounds would have buried the Fit!

We had a chance to try my 08 Fit Sport auto with 175/65x15 ContiWinter in the snow of the Smoky Mountains. With those good Ice Bear tires we had zero difficulty getting anywhere. The reason most people have difficulty in snow is with improper snow tires. Use TireRacks rating system to see what works.
