Help! Vibration and lurching after driving through a deep puddle
Hi!
I bought a fit sport AT (vivid blue pearl ) on Wednesday, and it was driving like a dream! Yesterday it rained like crazy here in NJ and I was forced to drive through some deep water since the only road in and out of work floods at the slightest hint of moisture.
After I drove through, when I was idling at the stop light, I felt a vibration coming through my steering wheel (also could feel it through the brake pedal). I also noticed that my car started lurching when it switched gears (slow accel, stop and go traffic). I never felt either of these things before!
We popped the hood last night after I convinced my bf that I heard some whirring coming from the engine, and it was clicking - don't know if that's normal. All I know is that the car was absolutely quiet before and now I've got some discernible sound.
Help! Am I being crazy and oversensitive about the water, or does it sound like there could really be something going on?

It should not be lurching and hesitating. Starting with the worst:
Assuming the rain was the cause (and you know about assuming) pull the dipstick out carefully and check for moisture; you can repeat pulling the dipstick out quickly with same examination. Usually there will be cloudiness present from emulsified water.
If that is the case, change oil immediately before driving further. And take it to your dealer for examination. If you can, take a sample of the 'oil' on the dipstick to keep 'just in case'. About 10 cc will be enogh - a teaspoon worth. If you change the oil keep what you drained - all of it.
Water gets in drivetrains primarily through gaps in seals - like the crankcase to block or transmission. And your Fit may have that problem. But that is a dealer Honda warranty coverage so do not attempt to tighten any bolts yourself.
PS unbelieveably water has also entered through a loose dipstick so always make sure its fully seated.
It could also be simply wateron the ignition system. Check the plugs, the injectors and ignition wiring for water. Dry them off and clean them if they look 'wet'. If you have determined that there is not water in the oil you can expect your dealer to do the ignition inspection.
There is a possiblity that your intake filtrer is waterlogged. Remove it and see if the car idles without hesitation after a minute or so. If it still does, time to see the dealer. After checking the oil of course.
PS it is possible to have water in the oil without finding it on the dipstick so you may consider changing oil regardless. If there is significant water it will flow first out the oil drain.
Good luck. Hope its one of the simple ones. If its any comfort its usually the wet ignition thats the cause.
