Worse gas mileage for California-bound cars?

I am contemplating selling my 08 Fit and buying an 07 Fit and my dad mentioned that I needed to not buy a CA car because those cars made to be sold in California have higher emission standards and get less gas mileage than those that would be sold elsewhere in the States. Is there any truth to that thought?

California's anal on emissions, but it's productive and best for the future. As for less gas mileage, I don't know, read the mileage posts on these forums and check people's locations? I'm pretty sure mileage isn't hurt... Should be the same.

i highly doubt that...all the fits are made the same. why would they spend extra time and money to make another fit with less emmissions standards. 07 and 08 fits are the same.

why would you buy an 07?
i have an 08 and im i live in California, my average mpg has been 30-32 under medium/heavy traffic commuting.
i also have a automatic, so im sure thats how all the other automatics are.

The California bound cars only have different things if the original car doesn't meet their standards. The Fit, however, does meet their standards and so nothing is changed. You can go on any manufacturers website and they'll tell you either with an asterisk or some other means when a car will differ in CA from the other USDM ones.

The gas mileage and my reason for contemplating the purchase of an 07 were entirely separate thoughts. My papa was just saying not to buy a CA car because it would have worse gas mileage.

better emissions i would think mean better gas mileage. i dont know heh,

but yes cali is anal about emissions, but why would it matter...you wont have to smog the cars for at least 5 years and i own a cali fit and get 38 average. the best so far is 41mpg....so i would think that statement of "cali cars" get worse gas mileage is just a myth.

Yes California dose have high emission standard...which good thing....but the whole about mileage will go down is false( it depend on the driver and conduction and maintain of car too)....actually if you look the cars in California we have better mileage then other states b/c California and other State are setting higher mileage rate then EPA standard and also high emission rating to cut down the CO2 being emitted into the earth atmosphere...

Plus I get 32 to 37miles /gallon all the time too.

California's laws apply to the gas pump not the car. Yes we have laws about modifying cars, emissions, etc. But those apply to after market and custom cars. Cars coming from a manufacturer are all the same. So we pay a few extra cents on the gas we use, but the car is the same wether you buy it from California or Ohio or whatever state.

All Fits are supposed to be CA legal on emissions. If Ca Fits get less mpg it would be a result of the gasoline sold there. (there are over 100 'recipes' for gasoline in the US and even the same brand gas can vary in energy per pound. Left coast gas only meets 87 octane while east coast is 89 but that is not necessarily a reason for different mpg.
I wouldn't worry about the differences.
