0W-20 Oil - Anyone Using It?
Mobil-1 has changed their 0W-20 label and cap to a Green color, and are touting it's fuel-saving properties. It stands out on the shelf of oils at the store.
Just wondering if anyone has used it in their Fit - and if so, did it make any difference? I think it's called for on most hybrid cars that Honda makes.

The W means the weight because in the real old days oil was weighted to determine the properties of the oil so the name just hung around . The numbers indicate the viscosity. That is basically how thick it is at certain temperatures. Generally the lower the number the "Thinner" the oil is determined by how it pours at test temperatures. In warmer climates you could use a higher W number than in extremely cold climates.
This subject has been debated over and over and over again on many forums and EVERYBODY has their own ideas on which oil and viscosity is the best. There are several sites dedicated to just lubrication of motor vehicles so if you are interested just google it but be warned that you will read more opinions than your brain can handle. With the advances in oil MOST of them are pretty similar so do your research pick one major brand and MOST LIKELY it will work just fine for you.

I would check with your Honda service department and make sure using 0W-20 does not void your engine warranty. The only recommended (for any temp operation) 5W-20 for the Fit in the USA. If somehow you have an eng failure in the 5 year 50k range they may check the oil and it would be easy to see what was used. The difference being at room temp the 0W-20 will be thinner offering less protection on start up than designed for. Over time it will shear out of grade faster than 5W-20.
Not sure the eco savings this would gain (I assume that would be the only reason for taking this bold move), but I suspect it's small to known in the weather we have now.
