anyone try any of these fuel saving ideas?

My friend told me about people making a cover for their windshield wipers, to reduce drag on the highway (so the wind isnt directly hitting the wipers). He said they can be made of cardboard.
A grill cover. He said on modern cars you can block the grill, and that the car won't overheat unless your basically towing something through death valley.

other ideas?
comments?

Well first of all I would like to say that is dumb because what if it starts raining your whippers are not pinned down and unusable...... On top of it your car would now look ten times stupider....

Why block the grille I would think that having your grille the way it is would help keep the air in your engine bay cooler which would make the air that your intake is more useful....

If you are worried about being more aerodynamic mabey get some body kit that makes your car a big upward slant that only stays no more than an inch off the ground and has nothing that could possibly catch air.

Blocking you grille WILL cause your fit to overheat your friend doesn't know what he is talking about. Very simple to check next time you are washing your car drape a towel over the opening and go for a drive, it will be a short one because your car is going to quickly overheat. If you could do it Honda would have already made the Fit with no hole in the grill so they could claim more gas mileage.

You are still able to use your wipers from my understanding. ITs just that it makes your wiper area more areodynamic

Your car is shaped like a odd egg. It is going to have wind resistance no matter what.

No because there isn't enough reduction in drag - could be more - to affect mpg Try taking them off and see it that results in better mpg.
And for covering the grill that will only work to destroy your engine unless its worse than minus 10F where you run.
What you see on NASCAR qualifying is good only for a couple of laops. Run 5 laps and you fry your engine.

No need to use cardboard there are companies that make air deflectors, (shaped like a reverse hood scoop) that you put on the end of the hood and it deflects the passing airflow over the wipers. How much of a reduction in drag it would cause is open to debate and the amount of savings in fuel mileage gained it probably take you until you sell the car (if then) to recoup your investment.

That would work .....IF... you grabbed onto a passing Fit and let it tow you along.
