Avg. mpg indicator in '09 fit?
I drove my parents '08 CR-V recently and in the car it has a Mpg indicator next to the speedometer. They had to get gas recently and I calculated the mileage on my cell phone. It was very close to the avg. mpg the computer for the car was showing. i thought this would be neat if Honda can put this in the new upcoming '09 Fit so we can see what we are averaging in the city or on long extended trips.

Having owned my SG for 2 months, I think it's a better option than a OEM system. The beauty is it does so much. Way more than any OEM system I have ever seen.
The location I selected in my Fit is not bad by my standards and I have already seen other FF's use it.

It depends on the overall look of the non stock meter. I have a Nuvi that I mounted on the speedometer and I've had several complements as to how cool it looks there. Not to mention, thieves can't see it from outside the car.

If you have looked at pictures of the 09 Fit from the New York show you will see the MPG gauge in the btm. of the speedo just above the Odometer.

Forgive me if this sounds dumb.
Does the average mpg indicator report the average for the entire trip, or just for some arbitrary time period (like the last 5 minutes).
Does anyone know how accurate the black bar is that reports the real time mpg?
EDIT: Average Fuel Mileage
This shows your vehicle's average
fuel economy in mpg (U.S.) or l/100
km (Canada) since you last reset the
trip meter.
I guess no one here is probably making that mistake.

Many cars have the little gage; the problem with all of them is they are notoriously unreliable until you drive at least 10 miles. On both of mine the mileage will vary from 38 down to 28 over the first 5 miles and then begin to settle to a pretty stable 27 to 29 mpg. (no its not my Fit).
The cost of the display is a major cost integrating into the dash so you're not likely to see it.
If you really want one I think the Scan-gage sells for under $200 and simply plugs into your computer monitoring plug where it measures the signal to the injectors compared to odometer to calculate the mpg. The smaller the numbers the greater error. Resolution just not that gtreat.
They are fun to watch especially on the interstate; trying to keep mine at 32 mpg is a real chore. On 200+ mile trips they do correlate pretty closely with refills but under 50 miles not so good. Both the refioll and the gage contribute errors.

You're kidding about the tpms aren't you?
You need to replace one tire sensor, just one, and you'll see. Besides. if you are too lazy to check your tire pressures weekly you don't need a car you need to take a cab.
Sorry. I just had to vent after the latest Congreesional screwup. (not tmps)
But tmps is another government 'I'm here to help you' 'program' that will cost us citizens a lot of money. Those sensors cost between $60 and 100 each and since there are 6 manufacurers they all all programmed differently and dealers are charging up to $50 to do it.
The good part is in these lean times mechanics have a job that can be done fixing all those units giving trouble.
cheers.

My third fill up was bad. The gauge said 44.7 but I only got 38.22. That's 14.5% less than projected. Or from the other side, the gauge projected 17.0% more than I actually got.
Argh.
Will the Scan Gauge do better? How so?

As far as I know both the Scan Gage and the in-dash indicators use the same sources of info: the injector output signal and the odometer.
The mpg indicator in my cars are very inaccurate below 10 miles of travel from resetting.
Add to that the difficulty in getting accurate fillups in short distances leads to large errors.
But on trips over more than 100 miles the agreement has been fairly good.
