To wait? Or not to wait! 09 fit

1st of all im new....

i use to drive a civic 07 lx...go intocar accident....and its not my fault....but the guy lied about what happen....no witness....

and

i got ****ed over =[

i'm driving a GMC Safri rite now as my daily....i want to kill myself...cause gas price is killing me...Big ugly heavy american van with a V6 for the lose

anyways

I'm going to buy a Fit SPort

Why?

1. Its a Honda
2. SeXy
3. Best bang for ur buck... i was going to get a TC, but too exspensive
4. Good MPG...double if not 3x my current 14/16 mpg in my van
5. ITS A HONDA! WOOOT! HONDA FTW!

Now...the question is....after reading up on the Fit...seems like Honda decided to make a 2nd gen already! after what? 1year? Usually newer is better right? 09 >08?
i like the current Fit model...i saw the 09...its a bit more...round...and im not too thrill about the non-color matching headlights...

sooo...i dunno if i should wait...or get the 08

help?

That is totally up to you. The 1st Gen Fit has been around for a long time overseas, but they only recently brought it over here to slot underneath the Civic. Personally, I don't like the new exterior much, but the interior is much nicer in the new one and does come with an i-VTEC engine.

I just bought an 08 Fit a week ago, knowing full well there's a new model coming out later this year. I had to think about it for a while, too, but then I decided that I like the styling of the current model better. I think it looks a little more unique than the new model. Plus, since the current fit body style has only been out here for a couple years, my car will always be a bit rare and unique.

The 09 will probaly be a better car in almost every way. I just dont think the styling is a as good as the current gen. But its all personal opinion, if you like the 09 looks i would wait.

so like... the current fit is just Vtec? is it more for saving gas then power?

and if i know my hondas right...the "I" in i-vtec stand for intelligence?so im guessing the new fit will have a bit more HP then the current one?

anyways how many ponies is the current fit pushing on the dyno?

a lot of people are saying they dont like the looks of the 09.

personally i wouldnt fully judge the looks until i'm standing next to one.

every time i see the current fit i have a different reaction.

1st year cars have their 1st and 2nd and 3rd year problems :-P I came from a 2006 Civic EX.

The Fit has been around since 2001, but only recently in the US. Most all the kinks have been worked out, so it's a good hardy vehicle. I'd shy away from getting another 1st year car.

Reasons to buy 08...

1) Cheaper both in base cost and the 08 is likely to have sales incentives.
2) 08 exterior looks better at least in my opinion.
3) 08 is a proven entity. You are unlikely to have any serious mechanical flaws.
4) No one knows what the 09's flaws are right now.
5) 07/08 will always be a rare car. 09- may end up as common as a Neon one day.

Reasons to buy 09...

1) Newer technology presumed to be better than 08.
2) Slightly better performance.
3) Slightly bigger interior.
4) 08's annoyances addressed in 09.
5) Probably more available options.

For me the one thing that would tip the scales in 09 favor in a big way is if
it has better paint. Unfortunately I don't think you can determine that without waiting a long time.

Since the '09's are already available outside the US they won't be arriving completely new and untested.

VTEC technology gives both fuel economy and power.

"I" doesn't mean "more power".

The current RS model puts out 118hp at the flywheel. Factor in an approximate 15-20% drivetrain loss and there's your answer.

That's not true. You'd need 1-2 years into a life cycle of a model to really determine if there are any defects. the USDM 09 Fits will be released very soon.

They'll be released in the Fall, so they'll have been out in Japan and parts of Asia for about a year. That's a reasonable amount of time for major bugs to be spotted.

It certainly wont be the 5 - 6 years of working out issues that 1st gen buyers had since it was released here so late in its life cycle but it's not negligible.

i feel better knowing that my fit was manufactured in japan, who knows where the new one will be?
it might have a higher demand and be outsourced, lets hope not.
i bought one 2 months ago very well knowing the new one was coming out within the year(summer/fall) and decided that the current gen was selling extraordinarily well, i had seen the jdm pics on the intarwebs and didnt feel so strongly about the new one.
id wait until right before they ditch their 08 stock at honda, and get one for rediculously cheap. :3

I haven't seen a huge surplus of the current gen Fits at any Honda dealer near me so I'm skeptical about the possibility of getting a wicked deal on one when the '09's arrive. I'd almost expect the supply to dry up or disappear prior to the official US launch. There may be a good deal to be had here or there but it might be a tough bet.

On the other hand it probably varies from region to region and I'm here outside Seattle where small cars like the Fit (and Yaris and even Smart's) are selling really well.

I'm planning to wait. The added power and updated interior far outweigh any theoretical issues or exterior styling problems I see. I was incredibly tempted after test driving an 08 just a couple weeks ago, but I'm in no rush to get a new car (other than being excited) and the updated features to me are worth waiting for.

Only you can decide for yourself, but if I were in your position, I'd at least wait until the 09s come out. At that point you would probably get a good deal on an 08 (if there are any left of course) and do a direct comparison of the two. If you're in a huge rush to get a new car I doubt you'd really regret picking up an 08 right now, but if you can wait and you think a couple 08s will be left for comparison sake you probably should.

Not that my opinion matters, but you did ask.

im in the same boat. Unless the perfect black sport auto pops up at a smokin price before the 09's come in 4 months, i'll wait to at least compare styling side by side.

This is very well stated. I took all of these factors into consideration when thinking about an '08 or an '09. I just drove my new MR Sport home from the dealer yesterday, so you can see how my decision went. Under the "reasons to buy an '08," number 5 was high on my personal list. I believe the '07-'08 has "classic car" written all over it.

Another factor that I heard of, but don't know whether it's a reality or not, is that the '09 may not come with a spare tire. The JDM Fits don't have a spare. I've heard more recently that the ones built for the US will have a spare. That's an important factor, IMO. You might want to check with a Honda Company rep (dealerships probably won't know yet) to see whether there will be a spare in the '09. Or maybe some fitfreak knows already?

I heard this but it doesn't really affect me. At 33 years old next month, I've owned 7 different cars. The only one where I needed a spare tire was in my first, a 1967 VW Bug that didn't have reverse. That car was tore up when I got it and was in need of new tires about 10,000 miles before the front passenger blew out going 75 on the highway. Being in high school, I could barely afford gas, let alone new tires.

My point is, a spare tire is really only important on the day you need it. 7 cars in 17 years and only using one spare tire makes it less necessary for me (having AAA helps too). Not saying it's not important to some, it's just incredibly low on my list of important factors.

Just curious as you say it's incredibly important to you. How many spares have you had to go through? Especially on a new car? My last few cars have been new and usually get traded in before needing new tires anyway. I could very well be in the lucky minority, but I'd think Honda felt the same as me in their decision.
