Homemade Bike Rack w/ Pics !!!

I got a 2x4 that was 2' long, a couple hooks and a small ratcheting tie-down to secure this rack to the hooks in the back of the fit. The expensive part is the fork mounts, which go for $20. The bikes stay in place very well, the part is small and easily removed with no trace.

I've seen a couple of posts about this and really wished there were more SO HERE ARE THE PICS!!!!

Nice. I cross train martial arts, and plan on biking this summer for my cardio. Is that the best way to fit some bikes in the Fit? Will they fit if I put the back seat folded up and put them in like that?

But good job on the custom bike rack!

As long as you take off the front tire I think you could probably fit 2 bikes with the magic seats in Tall Mode. There are several ways to cram bikes in, it just depends on how secure you want them to be and how many you need to fit.

Unless you secure them somehow they will surely tear up your interior, though. I've seen one setup where someone was able to fit 3 bikes similar to the way I did it and still was able to fit 3 people.

Wow awesome setup! Nice innovation with the tie down + hook. I may have to copy it. You have a pair of small bikes. I don't think I am able to do the same thing.

I've seen one setup where someone was able to fit 3 bikes similar to the way I did it and still was able to fit 3 people.
I have been pondering how to fit 3 people + 3 bikes inside the car. Still can't picture it happening though. Hopefully I am proved wrong.

In the 7 years I had my last car I ran out of gas and had to use that can I'd say at least 5 times. The first time it happens you gotta buy one of those cans. By now we have a relationship!

I had a different take on the bike rack

Nice bike rack. Though it's still not as extreme as mine :-P It also catches mud that may happen to drip off my bike.
I saw pics of the guy that had three bikes in the back of his Fit like a year ago. I e-mailed him to find out what size those bikes were, but I never got a response. If you check out how my bike fits in my car, I can barely fit my medium sized bike. If I slant the angle of my bike, then I can fit two, but it's very tight.

The bikes in the pics are 26" bikes. I guess you can't tell very well from the angle of the pictures, but they are definitely at an angle. I can't move my driver seat ALL the way back with this setup, but damn near it and more than comfortable for me. I actually ended up moving the driver seat forward more when I got in to drive it.

Anyway, I also got a new tie-down that works better. It's one without hooks so I just wrap the strap through both loops and back into itself. Since space was tight and the hook on the other tie-down dug into the carpeting piece a bit too much for me this was a good solution. Oh, also the new strap is BLACK. Much nicer.

Thanks for the link.

The guy posted,
"T-Mobilebike is a 19", the Reign is an 18" and the STP is a 14." Only the Reign needed the bars flipped 180 to get it to fit."

I am gonna try different positions with my bikes.
This opens up a world of new possibilities.

Thanks for posting this--we just got our mountain bikes (a pair of Giant Sedonas) and my hubby was wondering if we needed to get a rack to mount on our gas eating truck or if one could mount on the Fit without messing up the paint. I told him about your thread and fitting them in the Fit--looks like we are going this direction.

Thanks!
