Lifespan of Honda ATs?
#2
depends mostly on the guy behind the wheel. If you don't beat on it too much and maintain it well I've seen Honda A/T's go over 300k miles. I've also seen alot of older accord 4spd's die every 50k. The fit tranny should last at least 150k. Longer with a bigger trans cooler.

So, if driven fairly hard, how long should the 5AT in the fit last?
Maybe assume I/H/E and a 35 shot of nitrous or 5psi turbo/supercharger, driven fairly hard on the streets and taken to the track once per month.

some tranny's just die out of no reason...well, no reason to the driver.
inferior parts just fail inside.
here some areas to note:
a. stay clear away from neutral drops. (reving in N and dropping it into 1st).
b. allow time to warm up in sub freezing temps.
c. follow routine maintenance.
ive yet to have a AT car die on me for tranny issues.

My 2000 Accord Coupe V6 transmission went out at 93,000 miles. Fortunately, Honda discovered a manufacturing defect in the transmissions and replaced them under an extended warrantee for free if the transmission exhibited the defective symptoms. Honda stands by their products.

Just out of curiousity are you trying to break the transmission? I looked at your other thread and its about wishing you had a manual tranny. You are probably better off selling the car than whooping your motor and trannies ass . Anyways remember working your tranny and working your motor go hand in hand. On another note if you want to destroy the tranny, go and load up the torque converter often. Hold the brake pedal down and floor it till the rpms stop going up, then let go of the brakes. I'm sure your tranny and the rest of the drivetrain won't like that.

For what you described-- GET THE MT!!!! I wish every day I would have got the MT. When I got the car, I TOTALLY did not plan on tuning beyond maybe axleback exhaust, but alas I found the forum and now I am a complete tuning addict and SOOOO wishing I had MT.
I have an AT and I think (transmission-wise)...it sucks.
