Revmatching? Anyone Do it?
#21
Don't downshifting at all. The Sport Auto will automatically downshift. The rev matches alright, but then you'll feel a lag pressing on the gas again unless you lightly tap the gas and downshift when the RPM is below 1.5K. For upshifting, I dunno. Upshifting at 2.3-2.5K is pretty smooth, but doesn't rev match all the time. I can just hear the differential parts engaging when it doesn't rev match correctly.

heel toe
for everyone that doesnt get it or isnt great, it takes alot of time and practice learning it for yourself. i learned when i was 16 in my stock civic, and it has never left me. it has to be the most useful technique when cornering or running a canyon. when you run a canyon in complete sync with heel toe, you get to feel the real G force of the corners, not you over correcting or having to brake in the middle of the turn and spin yourself out.

When I replaced the stock pedal covers with aftermarket ones I mounted the clutch pedal off center by about an inch from the stock position to give more "shoe clearance" and then did the same with the brake pedal moving both away from the throttle pedal.
I also took about a 1/4" off both sides of the wide replacement throttle pedal cover and mounted it off center from the clutch pedal and moving them all works great. You just have to clamp the pedal in place with a small clamp or just eyeball the clearence a couple of times and you can figure out how much you can move the individual covers to gain the most clearance.
There is now enough clearance to drive and shift comfortably even when wearing wide sole running shoes.
It turns out to be just right for heel toe but I normally don't fell the need to heel toe just blip the gas while downshifting works for normal driving.
I also power shift or flat shift which ever you prefer to call shifting at WOT using the bump the clutch method and my engine hasn't shaken itself out of the car yet in fact you get no extra violent vibration that you can feel. It also gives you BETTER times not worse. Just look at all the drag racers out there the vast majority powershift just for that reason not to go slower.

if you cant heel and toe on a MT you're better off driving a AT... that is
just my honest opinion.
i have 2 levels of heel and toe...
traditional: ball of foot on brake, heel on gas.
lazyarse: thumb on brake, side of foot on gas.
when going full blast it's better to use the traditional technique for
max braking. but for in-traffic downshifts just use the lazyarse technique
as you dont need so much braking power and you can still rev up fine.
it just takes practice. you'll get it eventually.
going uphill from stops... i just heel and toe and drive off.
no need for e-brake unless it's a super incline.
just my honest opinion.

I feel pretty silly asking this, but I am not really sure what revmatching is...
I read the replies, but still a little confused...i guess the whole thing is about slowing down? i usually clutch in, downshift, tap brake (to control the coasting), let clutch out, what is that? clutch drag? I wanna do the poll!
I read kenchan's defs of heel toe... And i definitely do not do that or pull the ebrake.

It depends, if Im feelin feisty and want to make pointless noise Ill rev match.
Sometimes I like to drag down shift, it makes my Fit backfire and gurgle.
With my new exhaust I dont rev match. Unless Im the only person on the road.

i only heel-toe when there is moderate or hard braking required. Usually i just downshift w/ throttle blip before slowing down a gear then clutch in when i hit like 1000-1500 rpm. Heel-toe is hard with this car! The throttle blips are insanely slow compared to my sister's RSX and I'm still not used to it yet

TOOL- on a AT, it's usually a shift-blip. in that order. the torque
converter has slop and can revup even though it's in gear.
you can even heel and toe on a AT... i do it all the time on my legacywgn
before a turn. actually, i even do a toe-toe, meaning left foot brake
and blip with my right foot.

Maybe ill try that method soon and see how it works.

I assume while your down shifting in S mode correct? So your hand hits the paddle and foot blip the gas at the same time?
