I'm considering getting a new Fit Sport manual, and I drive on the highway A LOT everyday. My sentra does about 3300rpms at 90mph.. I think that's pretty good..
But I hear Hondas scream on the highway... so..
How much does it rev at 60mph? 70? 80? 90?

 

i'll go check, but it's MUCH higher than that. maybe like 2500 @ 60mph? idk gotta go check.

 

MT rev MUCH MUCH higher on the freeway then the AT in the Fit.
Im well under 3k at 70mph. 70mph in a MT is way over 3k, pushing 4k.

I think at 65mph I'm at 3000rpm, at 75mph I'm at 3500rpm. I'm pretty sure that's right, but I'm not sure. I didn't take the highway today :-\

 

At 70 im at 3400 RPMs. I remember cause thats right around were vtec kicks in. I cant remember what im at above 70 tho.

damn that's a deal breaker, I drive 120 miles a day, half of which is highway, and I could not stand to hear the engine scream all the time while I'm doing 85mph (the hwy moves at that speed here)..

I think I'll settle for an 08 Sentra S ...maybe

 

I rev about 2000-2500 at 60, 3500 or a little lower at about 75 and 80. It depends if I'm coasting or opening it up to make some leadway. I drive the AT. I'll check again in a little while. I don't even notice the engine noise though because the radio has SVC, so it just bumps it up to drone out the engine.

 

The engine doesn't "scream" at those speeds, not in the least. I have i/h/e and you barely hear the car on the highway.

 

yes. this is completely true. i have an axleback and i can't hear my car on the freeway. it's not like the engine is redlining or anything. it's a small, quiet motor.

 

AT - Under 3k rpms @ 70mph

 

its true about the car being quiet. Compared to other cars with the same mods and at the same revs, our motor just has a small vrrrrrr sound thats barely noticable.

 

Just got home from some driving HWY today, and I was a little under 3k when doing 70-80 mph. And like others said, it's not loud. Crack and window and you have more noise from wind. My Geo Prizm is loud, you can't even talk over the noise. This car is quiet and lightly purrs.

 

Why would it be a deal breaker?. I still get great gas mileage averaging around 85MPH. Don't forget it's a honda engine in the fit. it will hold 4krpm for like 200k miles. Only problem at 70+MPH is road noise, but it is an entry level econobox. So that's common with ALL cheap cars

 

the engine noise at 70-80 mph isn't too bad. i think the road noise kinda offsets the engine noise so i don't notice it as much.

 

that's it dude. the b16 transmission is WAY shorter geared than the fit.

 

Also note that the base model has slightly smaller diameter tires than the sport so it revs about 2.5% higher. Engine noise isn't bad at all at any rev when just maintainting speed. It's wind and road noise that comes into play

 

The other posts are right. 60 = 2900, 70 = 3400, 80= 3900 rpms give or take ~50 rpms on an MT. The AT does rev a lot lower.

I don't find the noise in my MT annoying at all until I'm above 80, then it gradually starts getting intrusive. Everyones different, but the engine noise on the Fit isn't bad at all. Like most Hondas, the road noise does come thru a bit more than other brands and that's mostly what you hear. If you don't mind the road noise of Hondas I doubt the engine noise of the Fit will give you any trouble until at least 80.....

 

I don't think this is true - the base does have smaller wheels, but also has a a bigger tire profle, so AFAIK, the actual diameter of the tires and hence the RPMs are the same.

 

175/65/14=23" tall tire

195/55/15=23.4" tire a 2.3% height difference.

One of the reasons the Fit Sport is 2 tenths slower in the 1/4 mile on average(A/c added weight, and more drag are the other reasons)
