Japan's Automobile Policy?
Well I'm doing a project on whether or not the United States is doing enough to help or preserve our environment. So this question is not directly related to the fit, but hopefully some of you people who live in Japan can help me.
I've heard that Japan gives some sort of rebate or discount if you trade in your old car, for a more fuel efficient car. Is that true? Or can anyone give me a website that can help me? Thx!!!

Not really sure about Japan's policies, but I've always thought that our hybrid rebate programs where misguided... Let's face it, people don't trade in their Tahoe for a Prius... they traded a Civic or Carolla.
Trading a Tahoe (not the new Hybrid version which has some pretty amazing numbers) for a Pilot would have as great (or greater) net environmental benefit as the Civic to Prius trade... so why shouldn't they get the rebate too.

1. Your car is rated 4 stars (highest rating) per the Japanese emission control standards, meaning that at least a 75% reduction in NOx or particulate matter from the 2005 emission standard; AND
2. Your car is rated to beat the 2010 targeted fuel efficiency (like CAFE standards in US) rating by 10% or 20% using the standard measurement mode.
Kei cars are not eligible. Hybrid cars, on the other hand, are automatically eligible.
For more details, consult with the Road Transport Bureau of the Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Trasnport.
