AWD/4WD in the 2009 Fit?

The Japanese models have had AWD/4WD since the Fit's introduction, and this would be a major deciding factor on whether or not I make my first Fit purchase when the new model becomes available this year.

From what I've been available to find, nothing states that the North American model with has this particular drivetrain as an option. Perhaps someone here knows otherwise?

Much like the JDM moonroof, NA isn't expecting an AWD for 09'. To be honest, the Fit is an amazing eco car as it is, if AWD was offered we wouldn't be seeing the gain in MPG as we are now.
I'd seriously consider a buy into the current gen, they've been tested all around, and right now you'll get an incredible deal. If you really want the 2nd-gen's don't be surprised to meet some troubles down the road.

considering you dont see those suzuki watever the name micro wagon
with AWD that often, i dont think people are going to want AWD on
a tiny economy car in the US. as posted above, they want mpg.

Might wanna take a look at the Suzuki SX4 if you want AWD, but I highly doubt the Fit will have it. In 99.9% of road conditions, all you need is FWD and good snow tires.

I suppose it was wishful thinking hoping for AWD and that gorgeous roof.

Anyway, I'd like to share some pictures I took of the latest fit when I was in Tokyo earlier this year. They are from Honda's showroom in the Aoyama district.

Oh, why not throw in some Skyline goodness?

Im almost 100% no, we wont get AWD in the 09 Fit. I think we should though, the Fit seems like a rally car to me.

There are no plans for the AWD version for North America.

I had a chance to drive an 1.5 L AWD Fit (CVT) in Japan for about eight hours (previous generation one, by the way). I drove around in a very congested city for a couple of hours, and then took it up the nearby mountain from the sea level to about 4000 feet in elevation. At the end of the day, I got about 11 km/l or 26 MPG. That's a pretty good mileage, considering the rigor that this car was subjected to.

So my observation is that, while the AWD Fit probabaly takes some MPG hit for the drivetrain friction and weight, it still does a pretty good job.

Of course, all of this academic if you are in North America, since the AWD Fit won't be coming....

awd?

Our driveway is steep and we just about have to stop before starting up it because of the down hill turn in. Soooo, we'll be keeping Mommy's Pilot for sure but I'm liking the 09 Fit to replace my truck. She had a Civic for 7 years and it had to sit at the bottom of the driveway several times in the winter.Gonna decide when the time comes just how much we'll miss the truck and it's 16 MPG! I'd certainly be on the list for AWD but I don't see it happening either
