i say i think cause my wife does our taxes. and she always asks
for my sales receipt of my cars saying something about deductions.

With Gas priced at 3.50 a gallon, Why would a dealer make a deal on a car with 500 profit from invoice to sticker when he can kick you out and sell it to some one else for MSRP? Good Luck but I'm with Chris, that may be a tough sell. And the end of the month means very little to the dealer anymore there is no quota from Honda. Our "snapshot" is on the 18th of the month, and most dealers can only order so many Fits anyway. Good luck.

I think the Honda salesman had his tounge in cheek. Of course you can swing that deal. Yea they make money on financing, but cash is still king. Go below MSRP, that is how I got mine. Here in the Colorado area there are 17 Honda dealers in a 200 mile radius. You have many choices in MD I am sure. A fair deal on a Fit is good, a not so fair deal for you or me is a rip. Dont give them any more than you should. Be fair with them and they will be fair with you.

My Fit - 18K
I paid $17,829.50 + a $500 deposit for my 2008 Fit Sport automatic with the cargo tray and all weather floormats. A bit much but I have a lifetime warranty on this car and it was financed at 5.45% (Chevron Federal Credit Union).
Nice having Chevron financing a Fit with $$$ gas prices. I can see $4.00 gas this summer (2008). So much for H3 Hummers and the Big Fords and Dodge gas suckers...

or......
just do what my wife and i are doing. work the deal on a LONG loan. like 6 or 7 yrs. then negotiate the price around 16K. give them like 5k down and make shure you finance THROUGH honda financing. they dont charge you to pay it off early. so your first payment will pay off the car.
worked for us.

Whether you pay with cash, loan proceeds or a bank draft, the dealership is still going to get the 17K. I don't think they would care if it was in physical bills or not. Truth be told, it's probably most inconvenient for them to try and deal with 17K in physical currency.

I’m paying $16700 for a Fit Sport Auto with Floor mats right now, throw on $1500 taxes after that. Invoice on the Fit Sport is only like $15900. Problem is that I’ve almost waited 2 weeks for the damn thing to come in so far (already have paper work filled out). My interest will be 4.99% and payments on a 60 month load are around $325/mo. Amazingly, going form a $48000 Lexus to the Fit only saves me $20 a month on insurance.

Hell you guys got it good. Spokane, WA is likely the worst place nationwide to buy a Fit.
Back in November when I bought mine my VBP manual Sport was the only one of its kind to come through in a long while. Even with it sitting on the lot for months they had it listed at $22k + T&L. Its sad but I was satisfied with talking them down to $18k OTD
Oh and that was used btw.

I called my local dealer and they have a shipment coming in late May, and one is a NHBP 5spd manual Fit Sport, exactly what I wanted, brand spankin new. Priced it all out at $17500 OTD. $2,000 down, probably $300 a month hopefully under 7% max. Also he said they are the only dealer around with a lifetime warranty. But seeing as how I'll be modding my fit out of warranty status, I guess that doesn't do much for me lol.

if you plan on voiding your warranty than get the cash value for it. They will say they can not do it but they can. I had the dealer waive my Used Honda Certification and was given 2k off of the principle in doing so. I still have my factory warranty though

In general its like that for Hondas on the whole Pacific Coast (I paid $5K over msrp for my S2000 the day it was released in 1999 but then again, I private sold it a year later for $2K over MSRP on a new one). But even so, this is a Fit, there’s a LOT of cars you can buy that I consider better at $22K. If the dealer told me $22K I would laugh him out of the dealership (and probably go buy a loaded Mazda 3, Civic Si and such, tons of great cars at $22K ). I still think you got taken at $18K even for this area. I’m getting a new Sport Auto at $16700 here in Vancouver and you are easily in driving distance.

Yeah but if the Fit was 22k just think what they want for an Si. It is like that with all cars in Spokane. It's rediculous. I am yet to understand how the dealerships here are able to consistantly mark up as much as they do and stay in business.
Unfortunately the Fit was more of a NEED to buy as well as an impulse buy.
My Mirage was not really a winter friendly car and thankfully I sold it for the Fit prior to all the snow we got because I would have been stranded. Also I had wanted a VBP Sport from the day they came out and this was the only one I had seen for sale.
Trust me I didn't want to pay the ungodly price they were charging but I did and I'm happy with the car. I'll refinance it once I have owned it over a year.
