57 Mpg!!
Ok, this isn't the average for an entire tank but it is an average over 70 miles according to my scanguage. It was on a trip home from Virginia on route 81 which is mostly flat and strait with some hills. I stopped for gas along the way and when I got back on the highway the scanguage started telling me I was getting around 55-60 mpg. By the time I got home I had gone about 70 miles and the scanguage reports I had used 1.2 gallons of gas along with a driving average of 57 mpg. I was cruise controlling at 80 mph for the vast majority of those 70 miles.
I've been driving for a couple of days now around town and have been getting my usual 32ish mpg on that same tank of gas. So it doesn't look like it was a crazy scanguage fluke. I'll have to wait for my next fillup to be absolutely sure, but the scanguage is telling me the tank average is still at 45 mpg.
This is exciting for me.

really
what the heck is a scanguage? gauge tell how much fuel in the tank? yeah I'm assuming what makes the fit less effecient are the stoping mechanisms (abs, other such) and the apparently thirsty tranmission. Engines are always more effiecient at full throtle, only problem is that it's not too safe keep it there! thanks for the post

scanguage is pretty much just a computer that allows you to fuel economy, fuel rate, coolant temp, air intake temp, engine speed, vehicle speed, etc. Its pretty much just a guage that any car has but a bit more.

The speed limit between Lincoln and Omaha is set at 75 with a little variation for construction, i tend to drive between 77-83 mph and my tach reads 3200 rpm tops. I make this drive to and from Omaha 5 days a week so i don't know how accurate the scanguage but the 4000 rpms is way off.

57 MPG is possible, but not at that speed - and for the aforementioned reasons.

RPMs were at 3200 like Biven said. I don't know what to tell you other than my Scangauge might have been confused. I'm just telling you what the numbers it was giving me were. I have gotten 47 mpg by dividing miles traveled by gallons at fill up before on a trip to Michigan and that was before I had the Scangauge so I know the Fit is capable of ridiculous mileage. I can definitely say that going over 80 causes a drop in my mileage but the faster I go up to 80 the better it is. I think V-tec engages at over 3200 RPM and thats what makes the mileage suck. So the faster I go go under 3200 the better. I'm looking forward to the return trip this weekend to see if the Scangauge had a hiccup or if the Fit was feeling good.
I will take a picture with my phone if it shows anything dubious again so you all can see.

Drafting off a semi can inprove your MPG, 10 feet away you get a 40% incress. I think its 30% or so if your the "safe" distence away.

i don't know how the scangauge works but is there an avg. setting and a real time setting. because my grandmothers lincoln will say like 63mpg sometimes if you let off the gas and coast for a little while. so you might have it on a different setting.
