Paint problem questions....

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forums and looking at potentially buying a Fit in a few weeks and have a concern....

I've been reading about a lot of problems with paint chipping which is concerning to me. Just wondering if all these paint issues are with the 2008 model, or just the 2007 one (I'm looking at an 08).

I personally swear by bug deflectors and will never get a car without one again (especially helpful during those summer highway drives up to the cottage). I know Honda has some sort of clear protection thing on the front end....do you guys recommend getting this?

If the paint chipping is a big issue on the 2008 model as well, I may reconsider getting it as it's something I don't want to have to deal with (and yes, I know any car will eventually get chips and what-not, I've just read a lot about severe paint chipping which is making me kinda nervous about making the purchase).

yes the paint chips... but no more than any other economy car... i mean your spending what? 16K on the car dont expect tank armor! does it suck to get chips in your new car... yes, but to avoid it, it would have to stay in the garage... and that would not be fun....

I have the OEM Honda hood deflector and so far after a month it has served well! No chips on hood or windshield. Looks good too.

i'm currently going through a paint issue w/ my '07.

the original problem was the paint peeling issue, which was taken care of at my dealership, as they repainted both my front and rear bumpers.

my current problem is that the repainted bumpers are peeling/flaking/chipping due to a really shoddy job done by the dealer's body shop. so i'm getting it done at the shop of my choice and it's being paid for by the dealership, as it is now their problem.

i was honestly considering selling my fit because yes, it is actually a HUGE hassle to have paint problems this often already. but as some awesome forums members pointed out, the benefits of this car outweigh the negatives, so as long as this current issue gets fixed properly, i shouldn't have any reason to regret my fit. i know the shop i'm taking it to this time does fantastic work, so this should be the end of the story....

and as far as i knew, the '08's haven't had this problem.

let us know what you decide to do and good luck

^ wow pip-rocks, that's exactly what i was afraid of happening to my bumpers if i brought it in to be repainted. i decided to just leave the paint peeling at a couple of the corners versus risk them messing things up more. But that's good that you're gonna get it fixed correctly now. Good luck!
