Scan gauge schooling

I have rented two Prius on trips and both yielded 45-50 mpg just like you but I have also talked to dozens who claim 60 to as much as 72 mpg.
One unfortunately shared her gas bill and taking the mileage on her odo and the gallons she purchased only got 45 mpg. I think she's still miffed at me.
Has Toyota interested you in a plug-in accessory?

Looks interesting. With my SG II on order I was looking for mounting options. How did you mount and secure it and would it work without the radio there? My car is an auto trans and I have not seen much info on that setup. Is everyone just using the 2 little pieces of velcro that come with it or has anyone a better idea? Thanks for any help you can provide.

That was what I got on my last fill in my stock 2008 Fit Sport.
I wanted to show how close my Scan Gauge is compared to pump gals and Odometer miles.
The "hybrid" mention is ref to what a user on here found out. If you tell the SG your eng is a hybrid, (I had told it to be a gas eng) it will than keep counting miles with the with engine off. This was a big deal because I do a fair amount of coasting and that caused the SG miles to be short of actual and cause the MPG to be off as well.
Also going 500 miles on a tank was find of of cool for me. I only know of two other that have down that so far.

That's about where I've got mine, too, but lower on the AC controls. I wish all 3 of the little domes were on the same plane, but the middle one sits ever so slightly lower than the outer two, so the SG wouldn't sit level. I moved it over to the right to avoid the power outlet. So far, so good, and the dark blue background matches the dash pretty well.

I'm beginning to have my doubts about this gizmo.
I just changed my P&G method and drove over 150 miles with the SG showing at least 50MPG average for the two trips. I thought, woo hoo! and pulled into the gas station to fill up. Guess what my calculated mileage was? 38.4 MPG, same as it has been on nearly every tank no matter how I have driven the car. Two things:
- ScanGauge once again woefully underestimated the amount of fuel used
- Supposed 50MPG runs were nothing of the sort
- Over 4 tankfuls, and using various methods, P&G has gained me exactly 0.0 MPG over using Cruise Control.
I keep reading about people seeing real gains, but I have to wonder: are they measuring real gains, or are they just repeating what the SG tells them -- which, in my case at least, are not real world figures.
Sigh.

Don't abandon all hope just yet. I've been discussing this on cleanmpg.com and they have some ideas to help me get the ScanGauge to more accurately represent what's really happening. Next up is a change the throttle position sensor (TPS) setting, which I'll try after the next fillup. (I've decided to compare changes and methods across full tanks of gas so I have a 'real world' data point to compare to the SG readings.)

method to tell mpg w/o SG
method to tell mpg w/o SG:
I have been building up my data base and developing a way that non SG owners can tell at 1/2 tank about what the mpg is for that tank. This based on the miles driven from when the gas gage is on the "F" line mark to when it's on the "1/2" mark. The difference. So all you have to do is keep an eye on it and record the two and take the difference.
Enjoy:

I did it that way yo remove any subjective and fill issues from the equation. I'm assuming most fits gas gauge work about the same and is about the same volume between the two marks.
This is a LEAD indicator for the tank results.

sg error P&G
I just finished my 1st and last tank using 80% pulse and glide. Not only did I not see the gains I had hoped it should result in I also verified the SG is way off in the gal of fuel used and mpg.
I have kept decent records of SG vss pump and if you look at the last fill you'll see the 17% error I just recorded.
SG said I used 9.31 gal with 526 miles
Actual 11.325 for 529miles
I was also pushing for a 600 mile tank but after running 81 miles after the E light came on (another record for me) I gave up and filled.
11.325 is way past the most I have used (look at the chart) and well past the 10.7 gal the Fit spec. I have know idea about this.

I just picked up my ScanGaugeII this afternoon from Aero Car Parts in Edmonton for CDN$187.95 out the door. Rick Schumacker (owner) was very helpful. He said he had just ordered 50 units and only had 20 left.
I am looking forward to getting it installed and set up this weekend.

I think it was 10.877 I filled with, and obviously I wasn't out of gas when I pulled into the gas station, the light had just come on 20 miles prior. A small amount also spilled though.

Im a noob. I have researched the Fit for a while and finally bought one. I am now waiting on the dealer to get it in. It is the 08 Sport, Vivid Blue with AT.
I bought the AT because my wife will be driving it some when I am out of town (quite a bit). pcs0snq has mentioned the scan guage to me on DRR (another board). Where do I find it?
What would be a realistic MPG for the auto with a 80 mile (one way)commute to work with 72 of those miles being interstate?
I appreciate the input... looking forward to getting the Fit home to begin driving it.
