HPS vs. BOMZ intake -- Newbie

Hey guys,

I'm Matt, just got a fit in late August and recently got into a car accident with it... Some lady hit me. Anyways, I want to get my poor Fit some presents. So I ordered Window Tints, a performance chip, and a intake.

I am a newbie when it comes to engine mods, I was wondering between the two brands HPS and BOMZ. I'm looking on ebay for an intake to buy and I really dont know much about them at all. I'm actually hoping I can figure out how to install one because it doesn't look all that bad, plus if worst comes to worst my uncle owns a autobody shop.

Well, once my car comes back I'll take some pictures, make my big opening with the fit freak site. Hopefully getting it back within the next few days... This website is the reason I actually really love fits. I liked them when I first saw them in the Honda showroom then I got bored of them, but when I found this site, HOLY SHIT these fits are sick!!! My new desktop is a picture of the spec-D fit. And I can't wait to get my hands on my fit.

Just wanted to thank you guys for getting me into all of this cool shit! And thanks for the help!

eBay Motors: BOMZ Honda 2007 07 FIT Jazz 1.5L L15A1 Air Intake Kit (item 160195586598 end time Jan-10-08 12:17:38 PST)
eBay Motors: NEW HPS Air Intake Kit Honda 06 07 Fit Jazz 1.5L MT AT (item 180202119939 end time Jan-08-08 11:23:43 PST)

Leaning towards the HPS because its free shipping + it comes with cool stickers.

I'll tell you right now, don't waste your time and money on either of those. If your going to buy an intake, buy from a respectable company like Injen, Fujita, T1R, H-Fit, or Last Station, etc. who have done their homework and proper R&D to design an intake that will actually give you some benefit as opposed to just wanting your money for a little cheap bling (keyword: CHEAP). You will pay more money at the outset, but you will be a LOT more satisfied with your purchase in the long run, guaranteed.

Now, which of the above mentioned intakes is best for you? -- that's something you'll have to do a bit of research on for yourself and ask questions. Best place to start looking is right here: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...cations-swaps/
You will find LOTS of intake info if you take the time to read through the new and older intake threads, and most questions will already be answered when you're done.

BTW, please don't waste your money on any eBay "performance chip". They're just a scam and the results are dubious at best, with a possibilty of damaging your engine to boot, or at least making it run like shit if nothing else. Trust me, if they worked we'd all have them by now.

I gotta agree with Chikubi there, he's right. Either buy it right the first time or don't buy it at all. You wouldn't want to cheap out on an intake and have something fall off/break off cause you were too cheap to buy the name-brand stuff.

Performance chips are a waste and bad for your car. They just trick the engine to thinking theres more air than there actually is, thus more gas. But thats bad for the engine. Lots of gas, no air to burn = Bad

lol I had to read the whole post before I finally figured out what he was talking about. I'm like "Why have I never heard of either of these two companies before?"

Like said, save your money. Doesn't even look like it has a bung for the air sensor which will cause your ECU to give a bad air/fuel mixture which will not only kill performance but could lean out your engine and cause much greater problems.

Also there are no true performance chips out for our cars yet, one of the biggest companies for Honda tuning even said it's not worth it to manufacture one for N/A applications. So I'm guessing you got one of the $20 eBay ones that just trick your air sensor into thinking the air is more dense than it really is, and just adding more fuel. It'll probably kill your gas mileage and give you no real performance gain.

Just some things to think about.

ditto on the last comment.

i would look at it this way, intakes are pretty simple in design. they almost all work functionally the same way. the difference is in the filter. get yourself a good filter and the intake is almost a non-issue at that point. though i would look at a more reputable company for the intake pipe as well, if for nothing else than the confidence that it won't rust out in a couple months...

the ones you are looking at seem to be ram air intakes, since i havent really perused the market for fits yet, i would also see if there are any decent cold-air intakes on the market... those are much better suited for daily driving and highway driving... but that's just a matter of preference and where you would like the boost to be (ram-air = low rpm, cold air = high rpm)

Thanks for all of the tips guys, been really helpful, I'm going to take a second look at the all the intakes.

As far as the performance chip goes I was kind of on a spending spree because once my bank account has any extra money for some reason I have to get rid of it immediatley and I read at all the feedback and it seemed for $20 why not? but if you guys are giving it bad reviews I probably won't even bother putting it in.

At least I bought on good thing lol, window tints....

Once again thanks for all the info, ill take a few pictures of my car when I get it back and introduce myself and my fit story.

You're gonna do well here, I can tell. You took everyone's constructive criticism and learned from it without getting defensive like a lot of newbies. Welcome to your new home!
