Very carefully...

If I remember correctly even in Cali you can get any car you want if it is used under the restrictions (mostly mileage) of a show car.

butanywho go to the DMV site and look it up they usually have the regulations there...

other than that find a buisness or person that specializes in imports (preferably local to you) and talk to them, they should shoot you in the right direction. If not.. start going online for Japanese auto importers (actually start there first) Japan Auto Direct : Quality Used Cars Direct to You from the Japanese Auctions : Our Stock : Our Cars is a site you might want to check out.

"with enough money you can mess up anything"-me, myself, and I

If I remember correctly, there is a loophole in AZ law. If a car and engine are shipped separately apart from each other and assembled in AZ. It can be registered as a custom car.....something like that. I forgot, it's been a while. But I recommend looking into that. I've seen many Nissan S15 and R32-34 come out of AZ.

close, but they're made in japan to US specs, so they're still USDM, not JDM =(

correcto, just be careful. Many states that had loopholes are closing them up fast and have been for the last few years. Used to be that way in WA but law changed a couple years back. I have no idea how these people are registering JDM cars here now.

Good luck!!

I guess it is a good thing you live in MS, as long as you have headlights tail lights, seat and seat belt you pass the inspection part, or at least that is how my van did it took all of five minutes for an inspection

From what others have told me the car goes through a big inspection. Even in states without strict emissions. Remember everything is opposite. The flare on the headlights are backwards, windshield is difference I believe, mirrors, lots of stuff.

Ive driven a R33 GTS. Was fun but Id have to drive it for at least a day to get use to the shifting.
It was my friends. He bought it from Arizona. Legal and registered. He had a hard time getting insurance on it. It then got stolen. They took the CD player and the Volks. Thats it. My Mx-6 has his OEM wheels. Hehh

Its also hard to register JDM cars. One of my friends worked at a shop that imported Skylines and what not. The cars are shipped in pieces and then assembled here in the US. The title is then "rebuilt" like the car and considered US ready.

Try and contact these people. I love this site, deff a place where you can waste hours and not know looking at cars.
Japanese used cars. Used Japan car exporters. Used Japanese car dealers. [ tradecarview ]
