I have the volum buttons on the steeringwheel.
I did not use them much with the stock audio system, the volum knob was big and easy to find without taking the eyes of the road while driving.

But now I have installed a new AVN system with a Pioneer AVIC-HD3BT (AVIC-Z2 in the US) and the volum buttons on that unit is small and placed far down. So I think I'm going to get an adapter for connecting those steeringwheel buttons to the new system.

Yup. I have a Pioneer CD player in my '91 SE-R with the steering wheel remote control. Keep in mind this was 8, 9 years ago and that type of thing was pretty new. It was the coolest thing ever!

My friend put the JDM controls in his USDM Fit. they are quite nice actually.

In fact, he is the reason japanparts.com carries the kit.... he supplied them the picture to put on their website.

He actually has an aftermarket Pioneer CD player in his Fit, so he modified the resistance values in the buttons to work with his Pioneer. Hes really really good with electronics. The USDM fit has the wires in place already (between the steering wheel connector and the radio), you just have to add a wire into the connector on the steering wheel so when you plug the steering wheel in it will work.

The button LEDs are Red though, but its not that big of a deal. Just does not match the other side.

Sounds nice and intresting!
I'm pretty good with electronics myself so I could try to do this myself. Do you know if your friend has any drawings or data on wich value the resistors for the Pioneer CD player should be? And does anybody know if Pioneer has a standard on this, or does it vary from model to model?
I have a Pioneer AVIC-HD3BT (AVIC-Z2 in the US).

I really like the way the stock volume knob feels, but I can understand how this would be a problem for folks that have aftermarket units w/ small control buttons... worsening the problem is if you have stiffer suspension and your finger has trouble landing on the right buttons.

Didn't know the JDM Fits had steering wheel-mounted controls. I'd love to have the source change/track advance buttons.

As I stated in my previous post.... JDM has volume control

$92 here
japanparts.com : PARTS DATABASE

TO ADD:
It comes with the call buttons as well, but the USDM steering wheel connector does not provide the pins to transfer that signal(s).
