Fast Fit!!!

Fast Fit!!!
I am thinking of buying a fit soon but I want to get an idea of how fast they are. I drive a 96 Impreza 2.2L which has 140hp at the crank but being all wheel drive, it loses alot of power through the drive train. I won't get the fit if it is any slower but if it is about as fast, I don't mind. What do you guys think. Which is quicker? I know the fit isn't a rocket or anything I just don't want to get bored with it because it is too slow. Thanks for your help

The fit is a slow - compared to many other options for cars out there. I mean, it's rated at 109hp, to the wheels you're looking at about 94hp. But, in its own respect, it feels quick, because it's a small, light car.
With a little bit of work, you can make it a little quicker - or go all out with a turbo or s/c setup. But, this car benefits greatly from the tried and true Intake/Header/Exhaust combo.
But ultimately, it won't have the get-up and go of the subie. Even with awd, I'd say you have a quicker, better handling car.
If you want the fit for other reasons as well, like mpgs/economy, utility, space, great intro price, etc, then it's a great choice - but based on speed alone, I'd look for something else.
In the end, I think the best way to describe the fit is that it's well balanced. It's not shining in any particular category, but it has high marks overall. Take one for a test drive - you'll see what I mean, the fit may not be the best choice, but it's a smart choice.
All this in in my own opinion...everyone is different. Hope this helps some though.

Don't buy a Fit if your looking for something quick. It is 109 hp, but the tranny is geared for economy not "quick". If you want a nice, reliable, economical car, buy the Fit. If you want quick, don't or you will regret your purchase.

ep3 civic is my other choice, and while I like the k20, I like the fit better in all other areas. I just don't know what to get. I'm not really asking if the fit is fast, because I know it's not, I just want to make sure I'm not getting anything slower than my subaru.

Its not a fast car, as said above. Its 109HP....But i have never felt lack of power while in a traffic situation, it gets the job done. Also the Fit doesnt need power to be fun, it makes up for that in handling.

I think you just answered you're own question. If you'd be willing to drop enough for a civic then possibly you'd be willing to drop enough for a fit plus a k20 swap. I'm not saying its the best idea in the world, but you essentially get the best of both worlds you're looking into, you get the fit cargo and styling with the go of the k20

Not fast but it takes the mountain well and it can rip it at the stoplight zero to 50 in a short time but it kills your mpg if you do that alot! LOL!~don't ask me how I know this. The best thing is the go-kart feeling of driving a car that has the fun factor to the max. You can really mod it out and it gets you a lot of attention some good and some bad. People tend to steal our tires/rims and then you have people that will stop and ask you about the car.

I had the option of a new VBP fit or a NBP EP3 civic Si. In the end I had to go with the fit simply because of insurance premiums on the Si. I don't regret the fit one bit, though I'd have loved an Si. I think if you value power more then utility, the EP3 is your best bet, since you mentioned it's an option for you, since you'll still have some cargo capacities but the power you want is there.
The fit handles like a more expensive car, and it's peppy for sure, but runs out of breath quick. The civic won't run out like that.

With a good driver the Fit isnt much slower than an Ep3. Ep3 Civics are slow as doodoo; As if the Fit but it wasnt made to be fast.
My Fit ran a 16.7@81mph with an intake. My 60 foot was a 2.3. If I got my 60's down I could have ran a 16.5. Granted thats not bad at all. Im scared to go back because I have more mods, and I wouldnt want the car to be slower.
To give you an idea of how the Fit performs, I ran my friends rental Rondo from a 60mph roll on the highway. He walked me.
It was a v6 Rondo. Hahahaha, it was actually pretty funny.

That Impreza has about 10% more horsepower by weight, theoretically it should be a bit quicker to accelerate. Subtract a couple of percent for the AWD, maybe a bit more for the Fit being better than average in this respect due to it being designed for fuel economy, and then some more for the Subaru being ten years old and maybe not quite as good as new. I suspect they'd end up being close enough you'd have a hard time noticing the difference without actually racing them against each other.
You'd need only about 120hp from the Fit motor to equal the Impreza in engine power to weight, which is easy enough to get.

I've driven a base Impreza, but not recently. I think they would be pretty close. The Impreza definately has a better power curve; more torque. If you're willing to row the gears a little more, the Fit can probably keep up.

Listen, out of the block Fit is slower, but in the real world here is my Ten Commandments:
1. Fit is lighter! Much lighter!
2. Stock brakes are very good and modulated easily!
3. Brakes can still be improved - A LOT!
3. You can go deeper into turns before braking!
4. You can carry more speed into turns!
5. Start left foot braking and keep your right foot on the gas so rpm's do not drop below 3K rpm! Practice in safe parking lot!
6. On apex, release brake and you will rocket out of them as if you have twice the HP!
7. It is the driver that makes the biggest difference!
8. Add Progress rear sway bar and some quality springs that best suit your comfort/handling!
9. Do not waist hundreds of dollars on hop ups that will give you 2hp! Fly-by-wire throttle body compensates by opening less! Fit is tuned for MPG!
10. Save your money and down the road go with quality forced induction or engine swap! That is the only way to get any decent HP gains that you will actually be able to feel and measure! Jackson Racing (supercharger), HKS, Drag,.....(turbo kits) are on the way! Engine swap kits, too! And some will be 50 state smog legal!
I drove my mildly tuned CRX like that with maxed out suspension and bikes with seriously good drivers were the only to match it in the canyons in Southern California!
My friend is an excellent driver in a 2002 WRX with STI hop ups at well over 300hp and he has tough time keeping up with my Fit even up hill! Down hill I pull away from him! Granted, I even 4 wheel slide and drift through corners, but all under control! I am not the only one able to do it. At our recent Fit Mt.Hamilton meet others had him too! He was disappointed! He said he has to put his WRX on a diet!
I saved the best for last - my Fit is an A/T! ROFL!
Track is a different story, but if the track is tight with lot of corners......
I have no doubt you will enjoy your Fit more than your Subbie for less money out of your pocket for insurance, gas and car payments while loading up 42" DLP TV's, cauches,.........!
Don't believe me, listen what others say! Many members are former WRX and EVO owners, or have them more or less permanently parked.
Welcome my friend!

If you've driven a 1rst gen GC8 (1.8L)AWD, the fit is faster than that. It's going to feel probably as fast as a 2.2L wagon, not as fast as a gc8 2.5RS. That's all from FHE mind you. It handles better than a stock Impreza too, (although you have more options with the sube. KYBs with Ground Controls anyone? man I miss that car!)

The Fit will feel slower in the mid range for sure. I just bought an 08 sport last week, for a daily driver. My other car is a wrx wagon with 350whp and i still enjoy driving the Fit.
Once you get past a little break-in miles, you'll find that the car has very decent power in the upper rpm's. And as stated, the low weight makes the car pretty peppy. It also handles much better than i thought it would. I put front and rear stb's and rear sway on it right away and was very impressed.
