30,000 mile service
So, I've had my 07 Honda FiT Sport for little over a year now, bought it used with 9105 miles on it, and it now has 27,500. About a week ago the maintenace minder came on and told me that it was time for an oil change and B12 service (Oil change, inspection of a bunch of stuff, Air/Pollen filters). I called the dealer to have them take care of that and a recall dating back to feb. of this year regarding the airbags (something about them fireing off a millisecond too early or something).
Anyways the guy asks me how many miles and i told him and he says i should have this "30,000 service" done at some $400. Including replacing a bunch of stuff and the water pump...
Now, looking in my manual i cant find anything about this car needing a 30,000 mile service, or anything saying the water pump or timing belt needing replacement at x interval. My question is, do I need this work done or is this guy full of it?
thanks,
Zack

they are full of BS - unless there is an actual problem with either of them (basically if either stopped working, you wouldn't be driving it.) the water pump and timing belt have replacement intervals of 120k miles, i believe... traditionally, with older civics, this was done every 90k which has pretty much become gospel for most honda owners... be that as it may, the L series engine is MUCH more advanced than the old D series from the civics of yesteryear, it is designed with extreme longevity in mind.
your maintenance minder and owners manual have info on all the NECESSARY maintenance your car will need all the way up 150k, barring some unforeseen failure, i would stick to it.
suggesting a water pump and timing belt at 30k is just obscene... find a more reputable dealer.

Yeah thats BS..I just took mine in for an oil change and im at 7000. The guy was trying to talk me into to this big 7500mile inspection that cost like $200. So i was reading what they do and its a bunch of stupid little checks that i can do on my own and a oil change..I ended up just geting the oil change for $15...Dont fall for it man.
