Yah. I would just recommend that everyone that falls within the VIN range get this done.

 

i got my appt! never made an appt before really simple i go 2morrow at 3 (when i get out of work) you can do it right online too and not talk to anybody! --
but i called bc i wanted to see how long its gonna take- said about 45 mins ill just hang out

how is it that this only applies to certain states? couldn't someone in say New Mexico buy an 08 Fit and sell it 5 years later to me in Ohio and i'd be screwed? that just seems wrong to me. if they are going to suggest servicing it, it should apply to all cars affected. just my thoughts....

i gotta question about hondaOL (OwnerLink). is there a checkbox under the my profile section to get emails sent to me when a recall/service bulletin like this gets put out for our cars? all the options seem to be for different types of advertisements. and i never got an email about that airbag recall a while back, i just got it in the paper mail (but i don't think it ever showed up on ownerlink so maybe nobody got an email about it). i'd rather get it in email because i check that more often and i think it's more reliable.

Where does it say that? The PDF says it applies to all 2007s, and a limited number of 2008's (defined by VIN number).

The only purpose of the map appears to be to tell dealers where road salt is common, as part of background information.

 

I called my dealership and they won't do anything until I get the actual recall letter!

Guys, just do it yourself! I do not trust dealer trained part exchangers poking around unless it is a warranty work costing hundreds of dollars or more!
Rubber patch!!!??? How about splicing plastic tubing from hardware store, sliding it over connections with removed electrical tape (are we driving a f...ing domestics?!) and injecting rubber silicone or liquid plastic!
If you are good with soldering, just undo the connection, slide heat shrink tubing, re-solder the connection and shrink the tubing!

How crappy are OEM wiring jobs? Just look under the car up the firewall in new Civics! 20+ wire strands protected only by their own insulation! Engine compartment heat will turn them from pliable insulation to brittle plastic! Good thing I will be trading my Civic sometime next year!
I wish we would be able to take a look under the car before we buy them!

My 17 year old CRX wiring is still holding up well. Only wires I eliminated that were geting crisp were from an ignitor module I relocated to the firewall from original location inside the distributor. Temperature difference of at least 50*F made wonders to driveability, throttle response and mileage!
Electronics do not like heat no mater how insulated they are. If you can relocate them - do it!

im always a bit apprehensive about people working on my car- but in 5 years when you want to trade in or sell and an educated buyer looks into recalls and sees you did it yourself....?
its a free service might as well take the hour and let em do it for you

 

whats your dealer i see you live in ct too--- call branfon they just asked for my last name after i told them i have a fit asked the times and all set

 

I bought the car at Westbrook Honda. Branfon is a biit out of my way, but I may go there if they will do it right away.

 

Bottom line.
Recalls cost money.

 

It is only certain states at this time because Honda has noticed ther is only a problem when Road Salt is mixed wuth water and it seeps throught the carpet. regular water won't corrode the wires. but a salt water solution will. The states highlighted are known to use salt on there roads extensively.

If you are not in on of the highlighted states the bulletin may not even be sent to your dealer. They don't use salt on the roade in japan so this hasn't been an issue before.

Any car registered with Honda is an affected state which is the resold in an unaffected state later through the dealer wil show the bulletin and be fixed. Example someone buys a car in Illinois and it is resold in Nevada when the car is checked by the dealer the bulletin will pop up and the part will be checked.

My friend at Honda wrote the bulletin that's how I know what it means.

 

Normally I would agree with you, but I sold my Passat with my own records.
The buyer was educated VW fan who test drove the car, looked at all the details even under the car and came amazed.
I gave him my contact info, extra filters, all stock parts I replaced with upgraded parts, left over Red Line oil, ATE Blue Point brake fluid, OBD cable and Ross Tech software disc, shop manual, timing belt replacement tools, ...... Records included pictures and list of all parts and fluids I replaced.
Car was sold above my asking price and new owner gave me his e-mail and multiple phone numbers to let him know when I get ready to sell my next car!
I get Christmas cards from him every year!

well... so at first they said they just had to reprogram the srs computer..
then about 45 mins later they came out and told me that "honda" wants them to look at every splice in a "four foot area" and it would take another hour or so- so i was there 1 hour 45 mins o well they gave chocolates out and always have hot coffee so i was kept entertained

how long has it been taking for you guys?

-if they have to do some reprogramming then ur prolly gonna have to bring it in-- but i can see where you are coming from now that i think about it -- if you have proof of stuff i guess its not that big of a deal

 

since it just starting snowing here in chicago. would the splices getting wet cause a burning smell? anyone else have this smell?
