The Official Blog from GD to GE to GK to GTI to R?

That's about what I used when doing mine (2011 Sport 5MT) a couple weeks ago. Went through approx 1.75 pints. 2 pints (32oz) of fluid should be plenty.

alright got a 32oz bottle of castrol dot4 ordered... y dot4? cause i have a fairly new bottle of castrol dot4 i bought for my GTI.. and i no longer have da car so want to use it up if i come up short since im going to let my kid help.. good to have extra for screw ups just in case. i only plan to use the factory brake fluid in my Golf-R (shares brake fluid with clutch like my STI & WRX).

I would have done the same. I settled on ATE Typ 200 dot 4 for the same reason...only have to stock the one fluid for everything. All of my vehicles call for 3 or 4 and 4 can be used in place of 3.
Makes it easy as long as I don't ever buy anything that calls for DOT 5.

Nice car Ken. Great teaching moment doing the brake fluid with sonny.
Just say no to DOT 5 brake fluid. It's great for an antique car that sits, but is an awful brake fluid. I put it in one of my MG's after I restored the car & hated it. Ended up removing it & flushing the brakes with Castrol LMA several times to remove all the DOT 5. The only good thing with it is it won't strip paint if spilled.
I also use ATE 200, it's a very good brake fluid. Sure miss the blue ATE 200. I used to switch between the blue & gold when doing brake flushes, made it easy to see when you'd gotten all the old fluid out.
Did the bakes on my wife's MINI last week & used the ATE 200. If any of you guys need brake pads I'll recommend EBC red-stuff pads. Nice bite & low dust.
Have a good day folks.

thanks ash! da commute in my wrx is very enjoyable. thing is so easy to drive, quiet, and honestly besides the skin and some of the interior bits dere is really nothing similar about dis car and my STI. i like the variety.
as for brakes.. yah i’m in no rush to do da GK, but will definitely do it before winter. and yah will stay away from Dot5.

I miss the old ATE SuperBlue as well, used to do the same thing, back and forth between blue and gold.
Was using Amsoil DOT 3 500, the brake pedal feels very firm after we completely flushed with the DOT 3 500 in the GE, I think that fluid performed like a DOT 4. I used Amsoil DOT 4 600 in the race car until I switched to Ferodo racing brake fluid. Now they've combined the Amsoil to a DOT3/4 like Valvoline, will probably give that a try next time the Fit needs a change.

Ugh I have bad memories trying to do my first brake flush on my '95 240sx...way back in 2002. Lol.
I was using one of those bottles with a tube on it. You connect the tube to the bleed valve/nipple. Make sure bottle is elevated. Bleed lines until there are no air bubbles in the tube to the bottle.
Well, either I didn't seat it fully or the tube was crap (I'm gonna say it was user error since I got it to work later) and I pressed the brake and it popped the tube off and now there was brake fluid everywhere.
Anyhow. I saw a newer STI today at work and its a sharp car. Vanity plate says 'WRXGURL'.
As for me, just wrote my DIY on the H&R suspension to help others on my Civic forum.
Also ordered a set of Kicker Components for the Civic from Crutchfield. 6.75" woofer and 3/4" tweeter (maybe its 1" I forget). I ordered the Tweeter mounts for the EX direct from Honda since my Sport only has door speakers. Will make the install painless. Will take out my existing 6.75 kicker 2-way speakers that are in the door and were from my GE and put those in the rear doors. Will hopefully be a nice full sound now.
Happy Tuesday!

He still has a GK in the 'fleet' haha.
Nice....I had a SUPER breakfast burrito this morning. =)
Yeah stereo is already upgraded with a Pioneer HU, Kicker 6.75" 2-ways in the front, a compact mono amp 300w rms (in the glove box) paired with my 8" kicker sub in the trunk. Just finishing the setup by getting rid of the OEM speakers in the rear doors. Figured may as well upgrade the fronts to components instead of just another set of 2-way speakers.
